After a very impressive debut season, Chindit scored his first three runs in emphatic fashion. Breaking his maiden easily, he then went on to score a listed race without breaking sweat.

Upped to group company off the back of that saw him capture a group 2 smartly before finding the Dewhurst too taxing. An impressive return in the Greenham Stakes saw him fancied for the 2000 Guineas but he found himself well beaten twice by Poetic Flare at Newmarket and Ascot.

His form remained low-key for the rest of the season, finding it hard to lie up in group company over 7 furlongs and a mile.

This season he’s fared a little better. Scoring a listed race on return when sent off a short odds favourite, he’s since mixed it at group 1 level and has been left in the wake of Baaeed.

This drop in class should help him and he hasn’t been disgraced in better races this season.

My Oberon

Last seen just getting the better of Modern News at Windsor to capture a listed win, My Oberon has been in fine form this year.

He’s previously won a group 3 over 9 furlongs but found his form quickly tail off after that. Failing to lie up in group 1 company and struggling to shoulder a penalty for his group 3 success, he found himself gelded at the end of last season.

It’s returned better than ever this year. Scoring a conditions race on return, he then again looked out of place in group 1 company.

However, dropping back in grade saw him to lethal effect. Picking up a conditions race on the all-weather over a mile before winning a listed race last time out.

He’s in the form of his life and will relish a stiff mile here. Not to be dismissed likely.

Marcus Tregoning’s 4 year old had a relatively under the radar juvenile campaign. Kept in low level races for the most part, he scored in maiden company and tasted handicap success before dipping his toe into group action.

Finding that level far too hot, he was kept at handicap level for the first part of last season and scored an impressive victory when easily winning the Britannia Stakes at Royal Ascot.

Given a lofty mark off the back of that he found group company too taxing again off the back of that and failed to really make his presence felt in better races.

This season has been much the same. Kept at listed level for his two outings, he failed to get involved in the Wolverton Stakes but was only narrowly beaten by My Oberon last time out at Windsor.

A clear passage didn’t help him and he stayed on well in the late stages. A clear passage might give him a chance but he has previously struggled at this level.

A smart start to life racing saw Tactical garner listed and group success impressively. Beating Yazaman in the Windsor Castle Stakes at Royal Ascot before defeating the same rival to gain a group 2 win at this meeting last year.

Moved up to group 1 company off the back of that but failed to really make his presence felt in deeper waters.

An impressive return to racing as a 3 year old saw him win a listed handicap smartly to just get the better of Naval Crown. Again though he saw his form tail off and he failed to win in the rest of the season. Trying between 6 furlongs and a mile, he never really got competitive.

This season has been much the same. Well beaten in a handicap on return, he looked outpaced over 6 furlongs before shaping better over 7 furlongs last time out at Royal Ascot. A troubled passage saw him run on well late without troubling the principles.

He moves up in grade here and looked lost in group company last year.

After an underwhelming opening season saw this son of Sharmardal only score once in maiden company, Modern News was gelded before his 3 year old campaign.

It seemingly had the desired effect as he handily won all three outings in handicap company smartly. Scoring initially off a mark of 90 and defying the assessor to win off as high as 99 with relative ease.

His comeback in listed company at the start of this season in Meydan was a promising start to the campaign, coming a decent 3rd.

A mark of 105 was too stiff for him to get competitive in the Lincoln but he did win off the same rating next time out at Newbury.

He’s since taken listed honours before splitting Megallan and Mutasaabeq at Epsom to be a never nearer 2nd. Last seen back in listed company, he just failed to hold off My Oberon at Windsor to go down by a nose.

He just failed to give 3lbs away to that rival but faces him off level weights here. Surely to be in the mix.

A decent win on his only outing as a 2 year old was followed up with a lethal display on his first run at 3. Easily winning a conditions race over 7 furlongs by a wide margin, looking like a real hot prospect.

Upped in grade off the back of that he failed to really make a mark in the 2000 Guineas last year and only beat two rivals home in the Jersey Stakes off the back of that.

A convincing win when dropped in grade came at Haydock, but again he rounded out the season looking well outclassed in group company.

Returning as a more mature type he’s been seen to better effect. Winning a conditions race over 7 furlongs, he then went close to be 2nd by only a neck in the Bet365 Mile at Sandown.

Last seen sent off a hot favourite for the Diomed Stakes, he failed to really get going. Seemingly not handling the camber of Epsom and hanging to his left he couldn’t get near the front running Megallan.

A more conventional course will suit him here and his run at Sandown gives him a great chance.

Best Lightning

A German trained colt, Best Lightning scored a couple of times in low level races as a juvenile before just failing to seal a listed win over in France.

He failed to win in any of his outings as a 3 year old. Tried over both a mile and 7 furlongs, he bounced between France and Germany looking for success in group and listed races but failed to notch a win in any of his seven races.

He was only narrowly denied a couple of times over a mile but has returned a much better horse this year. Scoring over 7 furlongs on comeback in a low level event, he then went on to score a group 2 in Germany smartly last time out over a mile.

The form of that has worked out well with the 3rd coming out and winning a group 3 since but it’s hard to assess just how good he could be now taking his chance over in England. One that’s probably best watched on his first outing this side of the Channel.
