ITV Racing Tips for Today - Saturday 23rd May

There's a huge ten live races on ITV for Saturday's cards, with races coming from York, Haydock, Goodwood and the Curragh. With the feature of the day being the Irish 2000 Guineas where Gstaad looks to go one better than his 2nd at Newmarket. We've gone through all the live races to pick out our tips and selections for the afternoon.

Startled 5/1

Improved markedly for the step up to 7 furlongs, winning a handicap at Newmarket and backing that up off a higher mark at York 2 weeks ago. Steps up in grade again but a mark of 85 likely hasn’t gotten to the bottom of his improvement in this sphere and he easily overcame traffic problems to win last time out. Can improve again and carries a nice low racing weight of 8st 5lbs under Saffie Osborne.

Wemightakedlongway 3/1

Brings some of the best form to this contest with her Group One efforts last season including a 2nd in the Irish Oaks. Looked like she needed her comeback effort at Cork last month, fading out of contention but that effort will have left her spot on for this. Drops to listed company unpenalised and should be raring to go second time out for the season.

Saxon Street 8/11

Arrives a perfect 2/2 here having won on debut on the all weather over a mile and improving to take the Listed Blue Riband Trial Stakes at Epsom last time out. Carries a 3lbs penalty for that success but looks a cut above his rivals here and can make it a perfect 3/3 with another slight step up in trip likely to draw out more improvement.

Synners Kid 33/1

Looks a big price for this contest judged on his juvenile form, improving for the switch to handicaps and winning twice in good fashion for Joseph O’Brien. Made a decent enough comeback run for his new yard in a deep race at Ascot last time out and still doesn’t look too harshly treated off a mark of 91. Can improve for seasonal reappearance and with some juice in the ground can be seen to better effect.

Lethal Nymph 16/1

Ran well over C+D just 9 days ago to be 4th in a similar event and has been nudged down 1lbs in the weights for that effort. Well enough treated to play a hand and has pace drawn nearby to drag him into the race perfectly. Can outrun his odds here again.

Venetian Sun 11/4

Group One winning juvenile sprinter last term, notching up a sequence of 4 wins in a row. Didn’t stay in the 1000 Guineas in her reappearance and will relish this step back down to a sprinting distance. Best Form in the field, top rated and with her fillies allowance will be hard to catch.

Miss Alpilles 9/2

Improved for a step up in trip towards the end of last season, winning a handicap at Goodwood before taking the Listed Rose Bowl Stakes at Newmarket. Returned to action with a decent effort behind Sweet William and subsequent Group One winner Caballo De Mar. Will strip fitter for that effort and can continue her form from last season.

Shagraan 7/1

Shaped well on seasonal comeback to be 3rd behind Night Raider at Newmarket and has already won over C+D. Represents the Clive Cox yard who have won 3 of the last 9 renewals of this race and handles any going conditions. Likely to be in the frame again.

Gstaad 1/2

Bumped into Bow Echo in the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket but without that rival in the field he finished nearly 9 lengths clear of the 3rd. He’ll come on for having his first run of the season and sets the standard on his fantastic juvenile campaign. Can get his Classic victory here.

Blazon Five 8/1

Finished ahead of Pole Star at Newbury last time out and retains a workable looking mark of 92 for that effort. The Alan King yard is running to a solid 74% RTF as of late and if there’s any cut in the ground come 4pm it’ll only help his chances. Handicapped to be involved if running to his best.
