ITV Racing Tips for Today - Sunday 17th May

A busy Sunday on ITV Racing for the Sunday Series sees a bumper eleven races broadcast from both Hamilton and Naas. With some competitive listed and group action coming from over in Ireland there's a strong card of hanidcaps to go through from Hamilton. We've taken a deeper look into all the televised races to pick out our tips and selections for the afternoon.

King Cuan 13/2

Has won twice at this venue before and has been successful in his only attempt at this trip. Didn’t handle a drop to the minimum trip last time out but looks like he’ll relish this test back to a more stamina favouring distance.

Red Spells Danger 10/1

Highly tried in maiden and novice events and ran to a consistent level without winning. Clearly relished the drop to 6 furlongs last time out and broke his maiden in emphatic style at short odds. Moves into handicaps now off a very workable looking mark of 79 and improve again kept at 6 furlongs.

Velozee 2/1

A perfect 2 from 2 in her career so far and improved her form from winning a maiden on soft ground to scoring in a listed race on good ground at the Curragh last time out. Sets the standard on form and looks like she’ll appreciate this extra furlong.

Ghaiyya 8/1

Strong handicap form over 12 furlongs and won at Doncaster on seasonal comeback off a 5lbs lower mark. That looks a negotiable rise for his relatively easy 3.5 lengths win and this step up in trip looks like it’ll unlock yet more improvement. Unexposed over this trip and can rate better than his current mark.

Charles Darwin 4/5

Royal Ascot winning juvenile last season and returned with a win at Navan over 6 furlongs on his first outing of this season. He looked like he needed the run slightly last time out but won regardless. Will improve for that effort and can assert his dominance again for Aidan O’Brien.

Woohoo 11/1

Improved markedly to score a Musselburgh last time out, coming on for her seasonal appearance and winning with a bit in hand. A 3lbs rise in the weights looks on the lenient side and she carries a feather weight under 5lbs claimer Lauren Young. Can improve again and has already won over C+D.

Mission Control 5/4

Aidan O’Brien has won this twice and sends out recent C+D listed winner Mission Control for this. Successful in group company as a juvenile and the winner of the Champion’s Day 2 year old Conditions race, he showed he’d trained on with his recent win and can continue his progression in this sphere. Progressive and already rated 6lbs clear of his rivals.

Cancelled 13/2

Outran her odds to be 3rd at Haydock over 10 furlongs, just fading late and looked like she’d appreciate this slight drop back in trip. Dropped another 1lbs in the weights for her recent place effort, she’s nicely treated and can improve for this drop in distance.

Stirrup Cup 17/2 L15

Consistent form of late, placing 2nd and 3rd on both of his outings of the season. Retains a mark of 70 for his recent place and returns to a venue where he’s already been successful. Strong place claims again.

Letsbefrank 10/3

Got the better of Fast Fred at Musselburgh last time out and this longer trip and greater emphasis on stamina looks like it’ll suit even more. Doesn’t look unfairly handicapped 4lbs higher in the weights and last winning pilot Lauren Young retains her ride in amateur company.
