ITV Racing Tips for Today - Saturday 6th June

It's Derby day from Epsom with the blue ribband of flat racing taking centre stage on ITV Racing for the afternoon. With supporting handicaps and group races to go through, there's an action packed 6 live televised races. We've gone through all of them to pick out our tips and selections for the afternoon.

Never So Brave 11/8

A really nice bit of placing by the Balding yard sees this Group One winner from last season escape a penalty back down into Group Three company here. Progressive last campaign, going from handicaps to winning the City Of York Stakes for Group One honours. Shaped like he needed his comeback run at Sandown and didn’t quite settle over a mile. Back down to his best trip and fully fit, he’ll be hard to beat.

Sparks Fly 4/1

Came 3rd in this race last year but has returned to action this season in fine form and posted one of the best efforts in this field when chasing home Lambourn at Chester last month. Carries a penalty for this but she is joint top rated and handles the course well.

Calandagan 1/1

Denied by Jan Brueghel in this race last year, Calandagan returns to Epsom for redemption. He’s seemingly improved in the last 12 months, winning the King George, The Champion Stakes, The Japan Cup and the Sheema Classic. The weather looks to have stayed on his side, if running to his usual form he’ll add another Group One to his impressive CV.

Stormy Impact 14/1

Won the 3 year old Dash at this meeting last year and looks to have an ideal set up for the open age Dash this year. With a real hot pace to aim at, Stormy Impact won over C+D last year off a 2lbs lower mark and scored on the all-weather off a 1lbs lower mark. Looks nicely treated and will come on plenty for her return run at York. Usual jockey Warren Fentiman claims a handy 3lbs off her back.

Benvenuto Cellini 2/1

Solid juvenile form and made the step up in trip look easy when taking apart the Chester Vase at a short price on seasonal return. Represents the Aidan O’Brien yard who has won six of the last ten renewals of the Derby and is the pick of Ryan Moore. Stays well, nicely drawn and represents top connections.

Hell Yeah He Did 11/2

Hasn’t been seen since October but has been gelded since that effort and lines up here looking nicely handicapped for his seasonal return. Handles slow ground well and looks like this stiff stamina testing track will suit. Well treated off a mark of 85 if fully wound up.
