We've picked out an antepost tip at big odds in the lead up to the Festival:
The Cheltenham Festival kicks off with one of the most competitive renewals of the Grade One Supreme Novices’ Hurdle in recent memory.
Old Park Star was installed as the favourite after impressively winning the Grade Two Rossington Main Novices’ Hurdle at Haydock by a yawning 18-length margin. Has winning course form at Cheltenham. However, only one of the last 12 Supreme winners has followed up a success at the track by winning the Grade One.
Willie Mullins has a strong hand, with Leader d’Allier and Mighty Park both prominent in the betting. The latter has been a significant market mover, with the Closutton chief comparing the five-year-old to Faugheen. However, only one run over hurdles is a negative.
Joseph O’Brien-trained Talk The Talk could hold the strongest form claims after landing the Grade One Ireland Novice Hurdle, beating Ballyfad and King Rasko Grey. El Cairos ensures a strong Irish hand, but the Gordon Elliott runner will need to brush up on his jumping.
Aside from Old Park Star, British hopes could hinge on the one-two from the Grade One Formby. Idaho Sun downed Mydaddypaddy at Aintree on Boxing Day, but both will have leading claims at Cheltenham.
A competitive betting heat is also likely to see Sober Glory, for Phillip Hobbs & Johnson White, get attention following an impressive second straight win at Newbury last time out.
