Stayers' Hurdle Preview
Last year's runner up Teahupoo has done nothing wrong since finishing second here last year, and Paddy Power have installed him as the clear favourite to go one better in 2026.
Unbeaten in three starts so far this year the Gordon Elliott trained 9 year old gained revenge on Bob Ollinger in the Christmas Hurdle. He put in a career best performance to win by 7 lengths,a dn that apperas to be the best form on offer.
Honesty Policy is just six years old, and skipped Cheltenham last year. He's been impressively progressive throughout his carer so far, and while he'll need to step up on his performance in the Long Walk he's got strong connections and is clearly well fancied.
The 2025 winner Bob Olinger has only run once since winning this race, in the aforementioned defeat to Teahupoo.
He's fully entitled to strip fitter for that run, and the return to Cheltenham where he has won all four of his starts will also be a plus.
Kabral Du Mathan is another six year old who has been eye catching in recent runs. Two wins this season over two and a half miles have been impressive although not against high calibre opposition.
His stamina will be questioned, but if Dan Skelton thinks he is ready he will be one to watch.
Another solid winner last time out was Ma Shantou, who comfortably beat the well regarded Impose Toi at this track in the Grade 2 Cleeve Hurdle in January.
That was by far a career best, and trainer Emma Lavelle knows what it takes to win this having taken the 2019 crown with Paisley Park.

Last Year's Stayers' Hurdle
There was one horse on everyone's lip for this race last year, with Teahupoo being well backed and eventually sent off as clear 7/4 favourite.
Owners Robcour also had Bob Olinger at 8/1, while other fancied runners included Irish pair The Wallpark and Home By The Lee.
The British were represented by just three runners; Lucky Place (11/2) for Nicky Henderson, Gowel Road (33/1) for Nigel Twiston-Davies and Crambo (40/1) for Fergal O'Brien.
The field was thinned at the sixth; outsider Crambo fell in the middle of the group, unseating J J Slevin on Home By The Lee in a classic case of wrong place, wrong time.
Coming down the hill for the final time, the majority of the remaining horses were in contention, with Mystical Power being the notable absentee.
The rounded the final bend in a bunch, with The Wallpark closely tracked by Teahupoo. Bob Olinger was an eye catching traveller though, and he flew past the leader at the last despite a slightly awkward head carriage.
That turn of pace was enough to effectively put the race to beat, and the favourite never looked like catching. They pulled well clear of the remaining horses, with The Wallpark hanging on for third, closely followed by Irish longshots Rocky's Diamond and Buddy One.
Picking Our Stayers' Hurdle Tips
Favourites have a relatively poor strike rate in this race, with outsiders not uncommon - most notably in recent years Lisnagar Oscar at 50/1 in 2020, and Sire Du Berlais at 33/1 in 2023.
Why is this? The nature of the race - three miles at a relentless gallop - means one mistake or slight underperformance is punished. Most horses are either unexposed at the distance, or older and possibly past the peak of their career.
The field often tends to be bigger than the other Championship races; this adds Each Way angles, but also makes the race more competitive.
By the Thursday, our tipsters always have a good idea of the conditions that the Stayers' Hurdle contenders will face. Cheltenham racecourse always drains well, so even if the week started off with heavy ground, it can often be much faster than you'd expect by this race.
