Throwback Race Of The Day - 03/08/2020

Siskin

This weekend sees a quieter few days during this seasons hectic racing calendar but the race that stands out comes from the Curragh with the Group One Phoenix Stakes for two year olds.

With that in mind we have taken a look back into last year's renewal of the event where it saw the mighty Siskin for Ger Lyons and Colin Keane, land his first ever black type contest.

The contest only saw five runners including the winner Siskin head to post and the rain falling and turning the ground soft, there was speculation the horse would not handle the ground due to only racing on quick surfaces previously.

However, the race turned out to be one of the best resumptions for some time with Siskin and Ballydoyle's big chance Monarch Of Egypt both pulling away from the field.

In the final stages there was not much between the two juveniles, but class showed and Siskin managed to land the Phoenix Stakes.
