Throwback Race Of The Day - 03/03/21

Monkfish

As the Cheltenham festival edges ever closer today we are looking back at the Albert Bartlett Novices' Hurdle from last season that saw four horses head to the last hurdle all within a chance.

The event on the Friday of the festival saw one of the best renewals of the Grade One with Monkfish, Fury Road, Latest Exhibition and Thyme Hill all fighting it out for glory.

It was the Willie Mullins trained Monkfish that managed to get on top in the final strides to stop Paul Nolan's horse from snatching the race, with Fury Road back in third.

This race has thrown a serious form line this season, with Monkfish being unbeaten in three starts over fences and now a dual Grade One winner over the bigger obstacles.

Thyme Hill has stayed over hurdles and has took Grade Two honours, whilst also narrowly being beaten at the highest level by Paisley Park.

Fury Road and Latest Exhibition have both won races this season and when looking back at last year's resumption of the Albert Bartlett, it could have been one of the races of the week.

Enjoy!
