ITV Racing Tips for Today - Wednesday 17th June

Day Two of Royal Ascot kicks off on Wednesday with all seven races on the card being shown live on ITV. With the feature race being a highly competitive looking renewal of the Prince Of Wales's Stakes, supported by big field handicaps. We've gone through all the races on Day Two of the Royal Meeting to pick out our tips and selections for the afternoon.

Velozee 22/1

Didn’t quite handle the step up to 6 furlongs when last seen but had strong form at the minimum trip earlier in the season. Scored on soft ground on her debut at Cork before an impressive display to take a listed race in a small field at the Curragh. Brings plenty of experience and form to the table for this, drawn nice and high and represents the Paddy Twomey stable who do well with their UK raids.

Limestone 10/3

Looks to have the perfect profile for this race, having battled back over 13 furlongs when last seen at Navan to win a listed race in determined fashion. Looks guaranteed to get the trip, progressive and Joseph O’Brien is sending some strong ammo for the festival this year.

Blue Bolt 3/1

Showed plenty of talent in her debut season as a 3 year old last year, winning a listed race before coming 2nd in two strong group contests. Returned to the track in fine form at Goodwood to win a listed race at short odds. That should bring her forward nicely for this. Strong form in the books, lightly raced for her age and Andrew Balding is operating at a 24% strike rate as of late.

Ombudsman 11/8

Took this race apart 12 months go in an impressive display and although facing a tougher assignment this year, still looks the strongest candidate. Has won twice already this season, taking a Group One in Meydan before holding on grimly under a penalty to land the Brigadier Gerard. Fully match, suits this venue and rattling fast ground well and well get his ideal set up from stablemate Devil’s Advocate setting a good pace out in front.

Shout 16/1

Drawn in and around the pace and already a C+D winner off a 8lbs lower mark last season, Shout proved he can still be competitive off his elevated mark with a good 4th in the Balmoral Handicap at the end for last season. Returned to form with a good 3rd at York last month and lines up off the same mark here. With a good 3lbs claimer in the saddle, he’s nicely treated, goes well at the venue and will get a nice tow into the race.

Oolong Poobong 12/1

Ran well to be 4th in the Sandringham Stakes at this meeting last year off a similar mark and made a pleasing comeback after a long lay off to be 5th but not beaten fair at Thirsk last month. That run will have sharpened her up and off a mark of 88 she still looks nicely treated. Looks like she’ll get a relatively easy time in front and Jamie Spencer catches the eye in the saddle for the first time.

Sergei Diaghilev 5/2

The Aidan O’Brien yard have won 2 of the last 7 renewals of this race and send out the professional looking Sergei Diaghilev. A pleasing racecourse debut saw him get the hob done at the Curragh over 6 furlongs and the form has worked out well with the 2nd and 3rd coming out and winning since. Looks likely to take a big step forward.
