Three Weekend Eyecatchers - 12/11/2018

1. Donjuan Triumphant

Doncaster's November Handicap meeting on Saturday was the last official flat meeting of the season, and there was a timely winner for Donjuan Triumphant in the Listed Wentworth Stakes.

Sporting the colours for King Power Limited and the late Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, he made the frame in Group 1 races at Haydock and Ascot the last twice.

He put that to good use to land the day's big sprint, for Andrew Balding and James Doyle, beating Hey Jonesy and Eirene into second and third respectively.

2. Bags Groove

Bags Groove jumped superbly to win the Grade 2 Rising Stars Novices' Chase at Wincanton on Saturday.

A useful hurdler, who fulfilled his promise on chasing debut at Ffos Las last month, saw off the challenge of Secret Investor and Harry Cobden.

Harry Fry is in good form of late, and it will be interesting to see where this lightly raced 7yo heads to next.

3. Springtown Lake

An typical outstanding ride from Champion Jockey Richard Johnson, saw Springtown Lake make all in the 188Bet Chase - a novices' limited handicap, at Sandown on Sunday.

On the turn for home, he had a wall of challengers, including the likes of Molineux and No Hassle Hoff, but the Philip Hobbs trained 6yo, saw them off one-by-one.

Successful chase debut, having finished second here in a Grade 2 2m4f novice hurdle here last season. Smart performance.
