Oliver Sherwood Mini Stable Guide

Mini Stable Guide

In the third edition of our new segment here on TWE we are looking through and speaking to trainers ahead of the jumps season and getting some words from them about their horses and what is to come this season.

This weeks stable tour comes from national hunt trainer Oliver Sherwood who is stationed out of his stables in Lambourn

We have asked him about what chase horses, hurdle horses and also any other things we should know from his team ahead of the 2019/20 jumps season.

Chase Horses

We asked Oliver Sherwood for some of his horses that are going over fences this season that will be worth following from his yard and he responded with:

GOT AWAY – "She will definitely go in Mares races and will be better on much softer ground which we didn’t get last year."

WESTSTREET – "Any staying chase over 3m4f will be the plan for this gelding , very much improving horse from last year and would like the ground the softer the better.

WHAT'S OCCURRING – "He won nicely in first chase but definitely wants better ground, an improving horse that we are fond of."

Hurdle Horses

We asked Oliver Sherwood for some of his horses that are going over Hurdles this season that will be worth following from his yard and she responded with:

PAPAGANA – "Will be aimed at all the staying mares races this season, again better on softer ground which she didn’t get last year."

SEVARANO  - "He won nicely at Chepstow and will certainly benefit going up in trip."

MAKETY – 'An improving filly, wouldn’t want the ground too soft but think she is better than her mark and we are exited to see her next time out."

Other Things To Note For The Season

When speaking to Mr Sherwood we also asked him if there were any other horses or any other things we should know about for the new season.

He added: "We have a couple of nice youngsters for Trevor Hemmings, NORLEY and BALLAQUANE who might run before Christmas.

"Also, Cossack Dancer who won’t run until the Spring but is a lovely horse."

To finish we also asked the handler what race he would love to win this season and what his overall goal for the season was.

He added: "We want to win any race at Cheltenham Festival as haven’t won one there for a while!"
