Oaksey Chase Guide

1. Charbel

Trainer - Kim Bailey

Jockey - David Bass

This eight year old for Kim Bailey at the start of the season ran to a very good standard with his best performance coming at Huntingdon in a Grade 2 where he went on to land the race.

Since then he has struggles being upped in Grade facing better company and never being able to compete but coming back to Grade 2 against weaker horses might just sparkle his revival and he holds a live chance.

2. Definitely Red

Trainer - Brian Ellison

Jockey - Danny Cook

This 10 year old holds bags of potential but this season has not fulfilled it whatsoever. He started the season really well winning the Charlie Hall Chase at Wetherby beating some of these runners.

He backed that up with his best win at the season in the Grade 2 Many Clouds Chase at Aintree but since then has been a shadow of himself.

He needs a revival in this contest and he has the potential to do so it is just whether he turns up on the day and is fine after being brought down in the Gold Cup.

3. Go Conquer

Trainer - Nigel Twiston-Davies

Jockey - Sam Twiston-Davies

This gelding owned by the well known Rooney's is taking a severe drop in trip after pulling up in the Grand National and it may just do the trick, performing well over 3 miles before that.

He won nicely in a Listed Chase at Doncaster two contests ago and if getting back to that form might have a part to play but each way claims would be the only thing we could see him getting.

4. Gold Present

Trainer - Nicky Henderson

Jockey - Jeremiah McGrath

The first of Nicky Henderson's brigade in the race os Gold Present who has been very hit and miss this season and will have to raise his game substantially to get involved in this one.

He has ran well in defeat in some tough races this term but his fall latest at Ayr gives reason to oppose and he would be a shock winner of this Grade 2.

5. San Benedeto

Trainer - Paul Nicholls

Jockey - Harry Cobden

Another frustrating horse from the thriving Paul Nicholls who seems to win a big race and then not run to the same standard for the rest of the season.

This eight year old two starts ago landed the Grade 3 Greatwood Handicap Chase at Newbury beating 16 runners, next time at Aintree he finished a weakened seventh in the Topham at Aintree and maybe this return to smaller fences will help him get back to winning form but he needs to improve.

6. Black Corton

Trainer - Paul Nicholls

Jockey - Bryony Frost

A fan favourite and back on board is the Conditional jockey of the season Bryony Frost with one of her first rides since getting injured at Southwell.

Black Corton has placed in his last three events and looks like he will do the same again on Saturday but if getting a nice lead and jumping well it would not be a surprise to see him take the glory.

7. Cobra De Mai

Trainer - Dan Skelton

Jockey - Harry Skelton

The Skelton's are flying at the moment but it would take one of the training performances of the season to get this seven year old into the frame.

He has won two of his last three but they have come in Class 2 and 3 company, stepping into this Graded race is a completely different ball game and he will have to give a career best to be involved.

8. Josses Hill

Trainer - Nicky Henderson

Jockey - Nico De Boinville

The final horse of the race and the outsider is the last of Henderson's runners and Josses Hill is another one getting on, now 11 years old this gelding has it all to do.

Racing three times this season and only completing one of them does not look good and these have come in much lesser races than this one. Easily opposed.
