17:30 - Elamirr

Newcastle hosts a decent card on Friday evening in preparation for one of its biggest all weather meetings of the season on the Saturday and we start with the Coopers Marquis Handicap.

In this Class 4 Handicap over a mile we have selected the Roger Varian trained Elamirr who was very progressive as a juvenile on a Polytrack surface and hopefully he can continue that.

He will be having his seasonal/handicap debut on Friday but after landing a Class 5 contest on his last performance he has to be taken seriously.

18:00 - Mercenary Rose

Next up is a five furlong sprint contest and Mercenary Rose for trainer Paul Colelooks to have a stand out chance over this stiff five furlongs.

P J McDonald gets the leg up for this one and he will be delighted looking at the fillies form winning on her debut last season and not performing to a bad standard as a three year old.

On her seasonal debut she was put into the thick of things over seven furlongs at Newmarket and didn't take to it but since back to 5f showed more promise and makes her a live contender in this one.

19:05 - Sun Maiden

Sir Michael Stoute's Sun Maiden has been a frustrating horse during her career but so far this season looks to be coming into her own and in the feature Group 3 over 1 mile 2 furlongs she is our pick.

She started her season in the Group 2 Middleton Fillies Stakes at York and ran well in defeat behind Lah Ti Dar and Rawdaa who ran a stormer at Royal Ascot in the Group 2 Cambridge stakes.

From that she got back to her best at Nottingham landing a Listed contest and that form makes her the one to beat on Friday.

19:40 - Trinity Star

Trinity Star for trainer Karen McLintock is our next selection in the Class 5 Handicap over 1 mile 2 furlongs and this eight year old has now dropped to a dangerous mark.

The gelding has not had the best fortune on the all weather but we believe that Friday is the day this changes and as mentioned earlier he is now jut 2lb heavier than his last winning mark.

He last raced on the all weather on a career high mark and never ran his race, this time around he should be better prepared for this contest.

20:15 - Turjomaan

The penultimate runner of the day comes in the Class 5 Novice Stakes over seven furlongs and we have sided with the Roger Varian trained Turjomaan.

This three year old looks the one to beat on his return to racing as on both his starts as a juvenile last season he was first past the post and if performing anything like that, will not be caught.

His two wins have come at Ascot and also over course and distance at newcastle which was his latest run to date which just adds to the fact he will be tough to beat.

20:50 - Swiss Connection

The final race of the day comes over five furlongs in the Titanium Racing Club Handicap and we have sided with the Bryan Smart trained Swiss Connection.

This three year old gelding gave his best run to date over course and distance and we are hoping he can do the same with a handy seven pound claimer on board.

He enters this race at his lowest mark since being under the handicapper which could prove a big bonus if handling the track the sam way he did when finishing second last season.
