Ancient State 6/1

Handles slow ground well and has shaped nicely in his last two outings to be in the frame in decent handicap contests. Won over C+D on quick ground back in September and has handily been dropped 1lbs in the weights for his recent efforts. Progressive and handicapped to be in the mix again.

Lisbane Park 7/2

Posted some good efforts in novice hurdle events last season, getting a touch unlucky to bump into some smart horses. Handles soft ground fine and has some chasing experience being a point to point recruit. Makes seasonal return here off a very workable looking handicap mark of 120 for the Joe Tizzard yard that fired in an impressive four-timer at Ffos Las on Thursday.

Sergei Diaghilev 12/1

Looks a big price for this as the Aidan O’Brien second string, having improved for being upped in trip. Scoring over a mile at listed level at Gowran and just being touched off by Rock Montreal in the Autumn Stakes. Might just appreciate the slower ground and stiffer test of stamina this race will provide.

Road To Wembley 7/4

Progressive over hurdles, scoring twice at the end of last season before returning to winning ways at Worcester back in August. Seemed to lack some pace back at Worcester last time out in a handicap and will appreciate this stiffer test of stamina. Brings good staying flat form to the table and will unlock some more improvement in this sphere now upped in trip.

Bengal Tiger 5/4

Loved soft ground at Naas when last seen bolting up in a maiden event under Ryan Moore just 13 days ago. Backs up quite quickly here but gets ideal underfoot conditions again and will be hard to peg back from the front if he gets into the rhythm that he did last time out.

Blizzard Of Oz 33/1

Formerly trained by Willie Mullins and has always been at his best when the ground is on the softer side, winning on soft/heavy. Made stable debut for Faye Bramley in the summer and found things happening too quickly on quick summer ground. Has been dropped to a very nice mark of 130 though, will get conditions to suit and has run well off a long break before. With 5 places on offer, he looks a nice price to sneak into the frame.

Diamond Dealer 7/1

Handles most kinds of ground and improved for being ridden aggressively over fences last season. Won fresh last year and the old course at Cheltenham suits those up on the pace. Not badly handicapped off 123 after winning at Kelso at the end of last season. The Skelton’s have hit the ground running this season and he might just get a soft time of things out in front.

Lord Byron 3/1

Disappointed in the Persian War, when being well backed but looking like he needed the run, eventually fading back into a well beaten 6th. Posted good form as a juvenile last season though, being in the frame in the Triumph, the Mersey Novices’ Hurdle and the Punchestown Champion Novices’ Hurdle. Handles any ground and will get a good test of stamina over this 2 miles.
