Group 3 Winter Derby Stakes Guide

Wissahickon 1/3

Trainer - John Gosden

Jockey - Frankie Dettori

This four year old is the stand out selection for this Group 3 contest with the form figures explaining all you need to know about this horse, being unbeaten in his last four races with three of them coming on the all weather.

He is riding for leading connections and off the back of his latest performance where he cruised to victory without being shaken up it is hard to see him being beat with the fantastic Frankie Dettori on board again.

Big Country 10/1

Trainer - Mick Appleby

Jockey - Luke Morris

This six year old is a frequent competitor at Lingfield recently having his last three runs here in preparation for this race and finishing second in all of them and the latest behind the favourite Wissahickon.

It will be tough to reverse that form but is definitely an each way candidate and even the horse to go with betting without the favourite. Not out of the question all together with a lot of the field running on Saturday behind him latest.

Hathal 10/1

Trainer - Jamie Osborne

Jockey - Adam Kirby

Another seven year old who has to have an each way chance behind the clear favourite with many positives in his favour having Listed form on the turf and two victories on his last two runs seeming in search of a hat trick.

Adam Kirby being booked to ride is a huge positive with the form he has been in recently on the all weather in Britain and he has only raced at Lingfield once in his career and won that day.

Master The World 10/1

Trainer - David Elsworth

Jockey - Sean Levey

Next up is the eight year old who loves racing at this track and even though more exposed than some of the field has course and distance form and a real turn of foot.

Last time out in November he won the Listed trial race for this contest beating horses running on Saturday and showed how gamely he could grind out the victory, can't be overlooked.

Court House 14/1

Trainer - John Gosden

Jockey - William Buick

Another John Gosden runner in the field who looks to be the second string behind Wissahickon but makes for interesting reading with William Buick getting the leg up for his first time back in England for a while.

Two starts ago he won a two runner conditions stakes contest at Lingfield and then finished third behind the two at the top of the market in this contest and will have had to come on a lot since that run to feature.

Chiefofchiefs 33/1

Trainer - Charlie Fellowes

Jockey - David Probert

Coming towards the outsiders of the field that would see a huge shock on Saturday if this 33/1 shot got up to win but he does hold some decent turf form.

He also won in a Class 3 at Kempton on the all weather but this looks a bit to sharp for him to feature after a neither here or there fourth against some of these runners last time.

Pactolus 33/1

Trainer - Stuart Williams

Jockey - Callum Rodriquez

Another outsider on the day but a very consistent eight year old gelding for this trainer this season winning four of his last five runs with the latest coming in a decent Class 2 contest.

When stepped up to Listed company two starts back he was overwhelmed and finished last of 11 runners which shows he will have to give a career best performance to be in the mix.
