Gordon Stakes Guide

1. Constantinople

Trainer - Aidan O'Brien

Jockey - Ryan Moore

The favourite and first runner in the contest is the only runner from the Ballydoyle camp and this three year old colt looks the real deal especially from what he's done this season.

Figures of 212 this season read really well especially his last two runs where he won at the curragh in a good Group 3 and also finished a very narrow second at Royal Ascot off top weight in the King George V Handicap.

Looks the one to beat if performing the same off top weight again.

2. Spanish Moon

Trainer - David Simcock

Jockey - Jamie Spencer

Spanish Moon looks to be a very progressive colt for the Simcock yard, especially this season who has just got better and better with every run and has lived up to his juvenile potential.

His last two runs are the ones to note for a form line when finishing second in a Listed contest at Goodwood behind the smart Private Secretary.

He then got off the mark for the season at Newmarket in a smart Group 3 which makes him a live player in this one.

3. Cap Francais

Trainer - Ed Walker

Jockey - Andrea Atzeni

The outsider of the race is Cap Francais who is a son of Frankel but has not quite lived up to the name in his career but still does retain that star potential.

As a two year old he won twice whilst placing on his debut and he was thought to be the next big thing but this season he has not looked the same animal.

He finished a good second on his seasonal debut at Epsom but his two runs after that have been below his usual standards and seriously needs to bounce back.

4. Dal Horrisgle

Trainer - William Haggas

Jockey - Daniel Tudhope

This William Haggas trained gelding has been in the form of his life winning three out of his four career races but is taking a huge step up in trip on Thursday.

Daniel Tudhope on board again is a bonus but from his four runs he does not like much rain so the quicker the ground the better chance he has.

5. Floating Artist

Trainer - Richard Hannon

Jockey - Pat Dobbs

This three year old is a very interesting character at a nice each way price for the Hannon yard and heads into this race off the back of a good win at Ascot in a smart handicap.

This son of Nathaniel will not have to improve that much to be involved off the back of his last run and he is very unexposed at 1 mile 4 furlongs.

6. Jalmoud

Trainer - Charlie Appleby

Jockey - James Doyle

The only Godolphin runner in the race and he looks to have a smart chance after bouncing back to a little bit of form after flopping at Royal Ascot.

He finished last of 13 runners when completely not running race in the Group 2 Queen's Vase but since then has finished second in a Group 2 at Saint Cloud and a solid third behind Japan in the Group 1 Grand De Paris.

If running to a similar standard he can be a serious player but looks hard to win with this season and that could be a negative.

7. Leo De Fury

Trainer - Jessica Harrington

Jockey - Shane Foley

The only horse in the race that is unbeaten and he is the most unexposed colt in the field which makes it hard to suggest how good he actually is or could be.

In his two runs he landed a nice maiden at the Curragh beating a stablemate and a decent Aidan O'Brien runner. In the next race he looked even better, even though it was in a smaller field it looked a more well rounded performance.

Although this three year old has not beaten that much yet he could run a career best and show how good he can be.

8. Nayef Road

Trainer - Mark Johnston

Jockey - Silvestre De Sousa

This three year old is one of the most consistent horses in the field placing the last two times in Group company when third at Royal Ascot in the Group 2 Queen's Vase and second behind Spanish Mission at Newmarket latest.

He looks vulnerable in this field but you can't rule him out staying on for a place and is a nice price for each way money.

9. Technician

Trainer - Martyn Meade

Jockey - Oisin Murphy

The final runner in the race is the ever improving Technician for the Martyn Meade yard and off the back of his latest win over in France in a Listed event he has to be taken seriously.

Oisin Murphy took the ride that day and again he gets the leg up which is a positive sign, the only question mark is step up trip from his last run with his first run at 1 mile 4f not going well.
