The first race of the day at York on Sunday is the Class 3 Novices Stakes for the sprinters and the horse that takes the eye is the Adrian Nicholls trained Mamba Wamba.

The filly is one of the most experienced in the field racing four times and she has performed to a high standard in the majority of her races.

This is a drop down in grade for the juvenile having finished fourth in a four way photo finish last time out over course and distance in a Listed race and if running to the same standard should take this.

One of the big races on the card is the 1 mile 2 furlong Judith Marshall Memorial Stakes and with 20 runners set to head to post these sort of races can find hard luck stories.

We are hoping this doesn't happen for our selection Thibaan for Sir Michael Stoute and this three year old holds some of the best form in the contest.

Racing three times this term and not finishing outside the top two in any of them, getting off the mark for the year on his final start when landing a decent Doncaster handicap and he should come forward for that once more.

The feature race on the card is the Listed Garrowby Stakes and in a field that you could make a case for all the runners we are sticking with the class act this season.

Judicial for Julie Camacho has been the yards shining light this term, even at the age of eight years old still getting better and better with every run.

This term he has raced four times finishing second at Newmarket behind the very smart Far above and then getting off the mark for the season in the Group Three Chipchase Stakes at Newcastle.

He headed to Newbury in high spirits and finished a valiant fourth behind some smart runners in the Hackwood Stakes and then last time out got back to winning ways in a Listed race at Chester.

He faces another Listed event here and if still on the upward curve should mount a big challenge.

Athers is the class angle in the Future Stayers Novices Stakes over seven furlongs having had a run compared to the rest of the field.

The son of Dubawi made his debut at Doncaster in a 7f contests and he finished a fair third behind a bright spark for Hamdan Al Maktoum.

He should come on for that run and had the jump on most in the field having already having that first day of school and that experience should pay dividends.

The three year old gelding is one of the more consistent types in this field having ran six times this season, finishing second three times and winning once.

He got off the mark two starts ago at Thirsk beating a nice horse for William Haggas and went well again last time out at Pontefract to finish second.
