Dickensian 9/1

Best runs have come at York this season and improved for having wind surgery with a resurgent 3rd in a listed race back on the Knavesmire at a big price last time out. Will appreciate this return to a firmer surface and will get a perfect hot pace to aim at in front. This race has been dominated by 3 year olds in the last few years.

Spoken Truth 6/1

Capitalised off his good handicap mark when getting back on soft ground at Ripon last time out, winning with a good bit in hand. Hasn’t been too harshly hit in the weights for that success and gets ideal underfoot conditions again. Should get the perfect tow into the race from just off the pace.

Roaring Legend 10/1

Returned to form with a cracking run behind Valedictory at Newmarket in July and although a 2lbs rise in the weights puts him on a stiff mark of 105, the form of that run has worked out well. He’s one of the smarter operators in this field, who’ll get the trip and has run well off a break before. Colin Keane got a great tune out of him last time out and retains the ride here.

Fast Tracker 5/1

Soft ground winner in France at listed level and wasn’t disgraced in the Celebration Mile to be 3rd. Shaped like he’ll appreciate this step back up in trip and gets his ideal underfoot conditions. Should be going close.

Arapaho Gold 6/5

Arrives here unbeaten and got the better of Nabati over C+D in July despite getting a bump and pulling hard. The form of his wins keeps working out well and despite carrying a 3lbs penalty looks to have the best turn of foot in this field. Can make it a perfect 5/5.

Desert Falcon 10/1

Ran well in the Portland Handicap at Doncaster last week despite being struck into and went agonisingly close in the Ayr Gold Cup last year to be a neck 2nd. Only 2lbs higher than for that effort, handles any kind of ground and comes off the back of a good prep run. Will carve out his own running on the far side.

Stem 17/2

Only 2lbs higher than his last winning mark and ran well off this rating to be 3rd at Sandown in a good race last time out, just struggling to see out his effort on soft ground up the stiff finish. Goes well at this venue, will appreciate the return to a sounder surface and is still nicely treated. Jamie Spencer takes the ride.

Silent Beauty 7/4

Won on debut on softened ground and just found the ground a little too lively at Royal Ascot to get involved. Dropped back in grade and back on soft ground in a listed contest last time out she won emphatically. Will handle conditions well again here and looks well worth her chance in this higher grade.

Evening Saigon 25/1

Soft ground winner when trained in Ireland and won a big pot in the Steward’s Cup in August before filling 5th spot in a strong handicap at York that’s produced subsequent winners. Runs off the same mark as for his York effort, is drawn nice and high and will sit nice and handy. With as many as 7 places each way, he can get into the big frame on offer at a nice price.
