Who To Follow On Day One Of The St Leger Meeting

Horse To Follow - Acklam Express

The Listed Scarbrough Stakes is one of the features on day one of the St Leger meeting and with a strong field heading to post it looks set to be one of the best renewals of the race for some time.

Acklam Express for trainer Nigel Tinkler has gone from strength to strength this term finishing third on debut but has since gone on to land a hat-trick of wins.

He has stepped up in company each time and last time out he landed his first victory in Listed company and although going into a tougher field he is highly progressive and does not lack speed or versatility for ground.

Trainer To Follow - Terry Kent

Terry Kent is a trainer that might not be known to many flat racing fans, only having a small operation and tends to very shrewdly pick certain races with his horses.

He has his first runner since 20th August coming in the second race of the day at Doncaster and that is his only runner of the week which means it should be taken notice of.

He fields Ataser in the Nursery Handicap over seven furlongs and the colt has two wins and a place from his last three runs including a really impressive win in a solid nursery at York, which just about looks the best form on offer.

He has the most experience in the field running four times overall and if progressing again and taking advantage of the five pound claimer, he is sure to run another big race.

Jockey To Follow - Ray Dawson

Ray Dawson is another name in racing that might not be at the forefront but the five pound claimer has a very bright future ahead of him.

The youngster has been in smart form prior to the St Leger meeting with four winners from 26 rides which sees him pose a strike rate of 15.38%.

The rider has two mounts on Wednesday, with his best chance being the aforementioned Ataser for Terry Kent, but he also The Throstles for Kevin Frost who could go well at a big price.
