A proper sprinting horse and went close over C+D on his penultimate effort when coming 3rd off this mark. Ran too bad to be true at Goodwood last week but wasn’t given too hard a time. Might just have the superior pace to some of his rivals for this speed contest.

Nuit d’Eclair 11/4

Improved from her debut victory to tackle group company at Ascot when last seen. Got a touch unlucky in running, not getting a clear passage and being hampered when staying on. Shaped like this longer trip will suit more and brings some of the best form to the race.

Hermetic 8/1

A decent stayer for Ian Williams who put in a good performance to be 4th in the Northumberland Vase and finished ahead of Shrimp Shady. Gets even more weight from that rival who heads the market now and is well treated off his mark of 81. Returns from a short break carrying a nice low racing weight.

Sallaal 4/5

Successfully made the step up to listed company after his demolition job in a handicap at Epsom, beating Persica at Sandown nicely. Steps up in grade again but is in red hot form and sets a strong standard at the top of the market again.

Insanity 7/1

Third in this race last year off a 2lbs lower mark and shaped well on seasonal return off 1lbs higher to be 2nd at Pontefract. Put in a poor effort at Royal Ascot but if drawing a line through that, he’s got a decent course record and can get in the mix again.

Calendar Girl 12/1

Fallen Angel is the class angle in the field but she’s yet to show her best this season. It’s interesting to see the return of Calendar Girl for Owen Burrows, a talented juvenile last season who signed off with a 7 furlongs group 3 win. She returns from a long break but was improving last campaign and can make her presence felt here if fully tuned up.

Red Spells Danger 5/1

Bolted up in a maiden before scoring in a handicap when dropped to sprinting trips at the start of the season. Has close linking form with Thunder Call, finishing behind that rival twice, but has a swing in the weights now and has been dropped 1lbs for a decent effort at York last time out. Handicapped to go close, Saffie Osborne gets the ride.

Blue Hercules 9/1

Decent form in maidens but struggled in deep waters in a handicap at Royal Ascot. Bounced back to form over C+D last time out when only losing by a neck and lines up here only 2lbs higher in the weights. Down in grade and looks well enough handicapped to play a role again.

Popmaster 20/1

Has outrun his odds on both of his last two outings, finishing 4th at 28/1 and 50/1. Retains a mark of 97 for those efforts, he’s well handicapped on his best form and will get a nice hot pace to aim at. Can snag another placed effort at a big price.
