Who To Follow At Tramore On New Year's Day

Horse To Follow - Al Boum Photo

The feature event of the day is the Grade Three Savills New Year's Day Chase and there should only be one winner of this race.Al Boum Photo has been the winner of this event for the last two seasons before going on to land the Grade One Cheltenham Gold Cup at the festival.

A short priced favourite, the nine year old should routinely win this race before heading back to the festival looking to become a record breaker and land the festival feature for a third straight year.

The nine year old has been a superstar during his career and landed the first Gold Cup for his trainer Willie Mullins, who at the moment is in the form of his life.

There have been some shocks during the Christmas period but if Al Boum Photo does not win this Grade Three event then it would be the biggest by far.

Trainer To Follow - Henry De Bromhead

Henry De Bromhead heads into the Tramore New Year's Day meeting not having a bad time of things over the Christmas Period, with A Plus Tard landing the Grade One Savills Chase at Leopardstown.

He will be hoping to continue his run of winners on Friday with big chances on the day with the likes of Not Available and Minella Escape in the Maiden Hurdles.

The handler heads into the meeting having had eight winners from his last 67 runners over the last two weeks and he will be hoping to add to his 12% strike rate.

Jockey To Follow - Bryan Cooper

Bryan Cooper although being fairly quiet on the racing scene for the last few years looks to be creeping back into the thick of things in Ireland, picking up more and more big rides including Latest Exhibition.

He has a handful of nice rides on Friday at Tramore with the one big ride that takes the eye coming on Mr Manhattan for Tom Cooper, with the form of his last race really working out.

Cooper does not have a bad record at Tramore over the last 12 months with one winner and three places from just nine rides which is better than most at this tough track.
