Throwback Tuesday Race Of The Day - 08/02/22

Soaring Glory

Today we are taking a look back at last year's renewal of the Betfair Hurdle where the Jonjo O'Neill trained Soaring Glory landed the spoils in taking style.

The Grade Three handicap event every season sees a huge field go to post looking to land Britain's most expensive handicap event and last year was no different with 23 runners going to post.

Soaring Glory has been a very smart horse for the yard over the last few years, with this victory being arguably his best to date, when seeing off Fifty Ball by three lengths.

Other horses that day who he went on to beat well include the talented Edwardstone, Buzz, Guard Your Dreams and Mister Coffey.

The gelding after that event was tried at Grade One level in the Supreme Novices' Hurdle but could only finish a long way fourth behind Appreciate It.

Having won another valuable handicap hurdle on debut, he has since been outclassed at Listed and Grade One level, showing that big fielded handicaps might just be a speciality.

Enjoy!
