The feature race today at Punchestown is the Grade One Champion Stayers' Hurdle over three miles and in honour of the race we are looking back at the 2018 renewal of the race.
The 13 year old back in 2018 was switched to three miles for this having been a winner over 2m, 2m4 and 2m5f, but the superstar was given his chance in this Grade One by the master trainer and it paid off.
Having showed in the past that he had speed and stamina, getting towards the end of his career the longer trips have played to his strengths over both hurdles and fences.
Before he did make the jump over the bigger obstacles, his last win over timber came in this Grade One where he saw off stablemate Penhill and Shaneshill.
Faugheen was 13 lengths clear of the second and then 33 lengths clear of the third giving one of his best Grade One performances.
