Throwback Race Of The Day For Friday - 23/07/21

Highland Reel

Today we are taking a look back at the 2016 renewal of the King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes as it turned out to be the last winner of the race for the Ballydoyle maestro Aidan O'Brien.

In 2016 Highland Reel landed the Group One event in fine style seeing off big challengers for John Gosden and Sir Michael Stoute.

The son of Galileo had an elusive career landing some of the top middle distance events around the world including this race, the Prince Of Wales's Stakes at Royal Ascot, Coronation Cup at Epsom, Hong Kong Vase and Breeders' Cup Turf.

Alongside his victories he was also seen finishing second in some smart events including the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe in 2016 behind Found and Juddmonte International when second the Postponed.

A horse of a lifetime for the yard being able to do it in England and Ireland but also across the globe, which is something that does not come naturally to most horses.

Today we are remembering the great Highland Reel by looking back on his much deserved win in the King George!

Enjoy!
