Throwback Race For Wednesday - 19/05/21

Winter

Today we are looking back at one of the great renewals of the Irish 1000 Guineas which takes place on Sunday as we are looking back on the 2017 resumption of the race.

Aidan O'Brien has never been shy of landing the Irish Classic event and one of his great winners came in 2017 when the filly Winter managed to land the Irish and British 1000 Guineas double.

The grey was very much an unknown entity heading into her three year old campaign finishing second behind her stablemate Hydrangea on seasonal debut and then coming on fo that massively to land the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket.

It was then all systems go to the Curragh to land the double and she did in fine style seeing off two stablemates to give the master Ballydoyle trainer a 1-2-3 in the race.

She went on to race four more times in her career after that, winning two superb events including the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot and the Nassau Stakes at Glorious Goodwood.

Winter was a superb filly for the yard and is now producing future stars at stud.
