Throwback Race For Friday - 26/03/21

Auxerre

The Lincoln Handicap on Saturday sees the official return of the British turf flat season and we have taken a look back at the latest renewal of the race back in 2019.

The son of Iffraj landed the event in 2019, with no renewal last season due to the current crisis in the world and he is the last winner of the event.

Unfortunately for his trainer Charlie Appleby and Godolphin connections, the Lincoln winner passed away as a four year old and was never seen again on a racecourse after his win at Town Moor.

During his career he went on to win four times out of five races, landing a four timer in the Lincoln, only finishing second on his debut at Newmarket to break the trend.

Many people say now that to in this handicap event you need to be a group horse and Auxerre certainly had the potential to be that.
