Three Standout Performances - 14/11/2018

13:20 - Maria's Benefit

Maria's Benefit followed up her chasing debut last month with a win at Bangor in the Listed Canter Carpet Mares' Novices' Chase.

A smart novice hurdler last term, she is now two from two over the larger obstacles, and proved today why she is so hard to beat.

She made all and was soon 6 length clear, before a reduced lead 4 out, ridden and stayed on strongly on the flat.

Smart.

14:35 - Just A Sting

Another who made it two from two over fences was Harry Fry's Just A Sting.

He came off the pace to score at Uttoxeter last month, and was raised 6lb as a result.

Today he was more in touch, went 2nd before 3 out. He was then ridden before 2 out, led before the last, and despite being hard pressed up the run-in, he just held on.

Good performance.

15:10 - The Russian Doyen

The RGB Building Supplies Beginners' Chase was supposed to be headlined by Tom George's Black Op.

However he withdrew before the race due to worries over the ground, and up stepped The Russian Doyen to land the spoils.

Decent hurdler; he put his best foot forward, with all these making their chasing debuts. He tracked the early leader, being leading 7 out, and was clear and kept on well from then on.

It completed a hat-trick for Colin Tizzard, a double for Robbie Power, and a double for the Gosden Mob.
