Three Standout Performances – 07/11/2018

12:35 – Surfman

Surfman ran out a cosy winner for Roger Varian in Division I of the B&M Installations Maiden Stakes.

A son of Kingman, he stuck on nicely for a close third over this C&D last month, and built on that effort strongly today.

Tracking the leaders, he was woken up 2 furlongs out, and was pushed out under hands and heels by Andrea Atzeni – only his second winner in the last fortnight.

13:05 – Slalom (Chantilly)

Slalom made it two wins out of two for Andre Fabre when landing Prix Quartriemem Tete at Chantilly, France.

He was the first one off the bridle on his debut yet battled on gamely to win. The form has since been boosted from that outing, and he used that learning curve to full effect this afternoon.

This 2yo son of Intello gave Maxime Guyon a must quieter time in the saddle, and fought off the late challenge of Ahesta Bero – also trained by Andre Fabre, to win nicely. One for the notebook.

13:25 – The Big Bite

Last year’s Champion Bumper 11th - The Big Bite, got off to the best possible start over hurdles this afternoon at Chepstow. He arrived at the festival earlier in the year unbeaten, with two wins in bumpers, and his class shone through today in this Maiden Hurdle.

He was fortunate that two of his market rivals either fell or were brought down at the first flight, but there was still a job to do, and he was given a nice ride by Noel Fehily.

He was pushed into the lead crossing the second last, and ran on very strongly on the flat, beating Jammy George – the early pacesetter, by five lengths.
