Three Horses To Take Out Of Epsom's Derby Meeting

Haatem

The first eye-catcher from the Epsom Derby meeting is the Richard Hannon trained Haatem who will be winning more sprint races this season.

A good third at Goodwood on debut behind two smart prospects in Beenham and Ethandun, he then went to Bath when up to 5.5f and went on to bolt up by six lengths.

He then stepped up to 6f at Epsom on Friday and having been backed into favouritism missed the break and gave valuable lengths away to the field.

What he did from there was special staying on well to make up some serious ground and finish a good third behind two smart types in Bobsleigh and Balon D'Or.

Breaking better this season he can land a nice pot.

Artistic Star

The Epsom Derby was the race of the week and it saw a superb winning performance from the Aidan O'Brien trained Auguste Rodin, but the big eye-catcher in the race was Artistic Star for Ralph Beckett.

Heading into the Derby as the only unbeaten horse in the field having been seen twice, winning at Nottingham on juvenile debut at Nottingham, he then came back this season and made it 2/2 when upped to 1m2f at Sandown, seeing off the talented Torito who went on to bolt up off a mark of 95 on the same card.

Artistic Star was last turning into the straight in the Derby but showed unreal stamina to stay on past some good horses and finish a credible seventh.

A step up in trip would suit this horse and currently being 33/1 for the Group One St Leger at Doncaster at the end of the season makes him overpriced and one to keep on side going forward.

Torito

The final horse we are putting up is the previously mentioned Torito for John & Thady Gosden who made a mockery of his mark of 95 in the Lester Piggot Handicap and now sure to step into better races could have a big future.

Seen once as a juvenile when third of 14 in a Maiden on debut at Newbury over a mile of soft ground only going down by a length, he was then put away for this season.

Returning at Nottingham in April when getting off the mark in a three runner Novice Stakes over 8.5f again on soft ground, he then stepped up in trip at Sandown when last seen finishing a good second to the talented Artistic Star who was an eye-catcher in the Derby.

He will not been seen in handicaps anymore and with him holding an extremely classy pedigree he can mix it with the best over 1m2f.
