Lord North

J: Frankie Dettori
T: John & Thady Gosden
N/A
Age: 6
Weight: 9-2
OR: 118
Days: 24

John and Thady Gosdens’ reliable 6 year old Lord North scored in this race 2 years ago but an injury saw him miss his chance to recapture the crown last season.

After graduating from handicap company he easily captured listed honours and a group 3 event on his way to his group 1 victory here at Ascot.

A slight dip in form later in the season saw him return in March last year with a spellbinding performance in Meydan to score another group 1 in fine fashion.

Despite being beaten by Alenquer at Lingfield on reappearance he made a great trip over to Meydan again for another group 1 win.

Last seen running well in the Tattersalls Gold Cup he again saw Alenquer get the better of him. He’s still in fine form though and has shown a liking for this course and distance.

A real threat to the favourite.

Age: 6
Weight: 8-13

Days: 45

French trainer Gianluca Bietolini brings his 6 year old mare Grand Glory over to Ascot. Showing some smart form over in native France, she quickly climbed the ranks to listed company to be competing in group races.

Last season saw her capture a brace of group wins over 10 furlongs, scoring in a group 3 at Vichy before stepping up to group 1 company to win a fillies race at Deauville.

She’s returned in fine form this season to score a listed race and then easily taking. Group 3 race at Longchamp.
This is a deeper race for her and she’ll need to step up again to land a blow against some established males.

State Of Rest

T: Joseph Patrick O'Brien

Age: 4
Weight: 9-2

An Irish raider for Joseph O’Brien. State Of Rest scored nicely on his debut as a 2 year old but failed to score again during his juvenile campaign. Running well in group company many times however.

Running well on reappearance in listed company over a mile, he made a trip over to America and scored a group 1 over 9.5 furlongs impressively.

Continuing his globe-trotting he went over to Australia for his next run and scored another group 1 event over 10 furlongs.

He continued the trend this season when winning a group 1 over at Longchamp, keeping on powerfully to land the Prix Ganay.

Last seen behind Alenquer in the Irish Tattersalls Gold Cup, he ran smartly to be only beaten half a length into 3rd. He’s proven at this level and looks to have a great chance to score another group 1.

Bay Bridge

N/A
Age: 4
Weight: 9-2
OR: 121
Days: 20

Sir Michael Stoute brings this impressive looking 4 year old here with the trainer in fine form having just secured the Derby with Desert Crown.

Bay Bridge started life over a mile back in 2020 but found the trip slightly too sharp to be at his best effect and finished 4th.

Returning the following season over 10 furlongs he looked a much better prospect and handily won a novice event and a brace of handicaps convincingly.

Rounding out the season going up in grade, he easily transitioned to listed company and scored again over 10 furlongs.

Seasonal reappearance saw him tackle group 3 company and look better than ever to score at Sandown with bundles in hand.

He looks tailor made for this race and is going to be hard to beat.

Coming over from Japan is 4 year old Shahryar. The colt trained by Hideaki Fujiwara.

Scoring in group 3 and group 1 company in native Japan, he showed some real diversity to score over 9 furlongs and 12 furlongs. The latter was a narrow success in the Japanese Derby.

His form dipped off a little bit subsequently but he bounced right back to form when last seen over 12 furlongs in Meydan. Winning the Sheena Classic when just getting the better of Yibir by a neck.

He drops in trip here so will have to show pace but he’s previously scored over 9 furlongs. Cristian Demuro comes over for the ride.
