On Saturday, trainer Keith Dalgleish is represented by only the one runner, who makes the 838 mile round trip from his Belstane Racing Stables in South Lanarkshire all the way down to Lingfield.
When we see trainers coming such a long way to just run the one horse we like to highlight it, as we believe they would not be coming all that way if it did not have a real chance of collecting some prize money along the way.
The horse in question today is last time out winner Soldier’s Minute, who has been running to a consistent level since being switched to the all-weather this winter, and after winning with seemingly a little left up his sleeve when last seen there could be more to come from this seven-year-old despite facing a career-high mark of 105.
His Wolverhampton success has been well advertised since, with the runner-up following up next time, therefore that performance can be upgraded and a number of his rivals in this afternoon’s contest don’t appear the most trustworthy of individuals.
The yard have also been in fair form of late, having brought up 5 winners from 20 runners in total (25% strike rate) within the last month, so although this revised mark does demand more it would be foolish to rule out another prominent showing.
