Listed Oaks Trial Fillies' Stakes Lingfield Guide 2023

Charlie Johnston sends two of his runners to Lingfield on Saturday for the Listed Oaks Trial with Fox Flame and Ferrari Queen. The latter had begun well at the start of her career, winning her first two races at Doncaster and Kempton as well as finishing second in the Listed Denford Stakes at Newbury, just over a length behind winner Victory Dance. However, she has tailed off since, finishing fifth of eight at Doncaster in the May Hill Stakes and last of eight in Group One bet365 Fillies’ Mile to round off her 2022.

A step down in company may help her but others make more appeal on form. Richard Kingscote is booked to ride.

Aiden O’Brien sends one runner to the Listed Oaks Trial on Saturday at Lingfield, with three-year-old Be Happy making her first appearance at the track. She has had three career starts so far, winning seven-runner maiden at Cork last September by just over a length before finishing fifth in a group three next time out, which could’ve come too soon.

Stepped up to finish third in Group Three Penelope Stakes at Saint-Cloud last month before heading here for her first run at Lingfield. Comes here as one of the leading fancies and it would be surprising if she didn’t go close. Ryan Moore is onboard.

Ed Walker has one in this contest at Lingfield with his three-year-old Perfect Prophet. The filly has performed well in her early career after finishing seventh on debut at Newbury in July last year, winning class five Kempton novice by a neck before third of eight in Group Two May Hill Stakes at Doncaster in September to round off her 2022.

She wasn’t far off the leaders there and could improve once again to run a good race here. While this will be difficult, she cannot be dismissed. Oisin Murphy will be onboard.

Karl Burke has one in the Listed Oaks Trial at Lingfield with his three-year-old Bright Diamond. The filly has shown promise on her first three starts, winning Newmarket class four on debut by nine lengths before finishing third on both her next two starts, at Goodwood in Group Three Prestige Fillies’ Stakes and third in Group One bet365 Fillies’ Mile at Newmarket last October.

She has to be in with a shout here after the start to her career and she already has good experience at higher levels. One to consider.

Jane Chapple-Hyam sends one to this Lingfield contest in the form of three-year-old Climate Friendly, who has struggled on her first two outings so far. The filly’s sire is Frankel but she finished ninth at Newmarket on debut before going two better to finish seventh at Newbury last month at class four level.

Steps into listed company now and much like the other big odds longshots, she looks set for another struggle here. One to dismiss on form.

Charlie Johnston has two in the Listed Oaks Trial with Ferrari Queen and Fox Flame. Fox Flame has made an indifferent start to her career, winning at Wolverhampton last month in a class six but only has a couple of placed finishes to boast amongst some poor runs in a lot worse company than this.

She makes her listed debut here having never run above class four level and her only success came at class six level. The 71-rated sprinter will find this tough and would be a huge shock of a winner.

Charlie Appleby has two in the Listed Oaks Trial with Eternal Hope and Sunset Point. The latter Sunset Point has progressed nicely to win her last two starts after finishing seventh on debut and fifth on her second run (both defeats at Kempton). Her first victory came here over 1m 1f but it was her second win that was the most impressive, powering home last time out to win Windsor handicap by seven lengths to Sydney Mews.

She looks ready for the step up to this sort of company and a big run will be expected of her. No reason why she can’t be there at the end. Rob Hornby does the steering here with William Buick on Eternal Hope.

Charlie Appleby sends two to this Lingfield race with Sunset Point and Eternal Hope. The latter has run well on her first two outings for Appleby, finishing third on debut at Wolverhampton behind Mountain Song and Crack Of Light before winning Chelmsford City class four in February, ahead of Mountain Song this time.

The three-year-old should have more to offer and goes up slightly in trip for this listed contest at Lingfield on Saturday. In the mix.

John and Thady Gosden send one to this Lingfield contest with their three-year-old Ghara. The filly has disappointed on her only two starts so far, finishing sixth on debut at Kempton in class five novice before last of 16 at Newbury in a class four last time out last month.

May struggle again here now sent into listed company, difficult to see her doing well here after her previous runs. Roger Havlin will do the steering.
