Jerry McGrath Recovering After Lingfield Fall On All Weather

Nicky Henderson's number two rider Jerry McGrath is said to be recovering well in hospital after he suffered a horror fall on the all weather at Lingfield at the national hunt bumper meeting having inured his hip and shoulder in a very bizarre pile up.

The jump jockey was taking part in the meeting on the flat that was put in place due to other meetings over jumps being called off due to adverse weather and unfortunately McGrath suffered a nasty fall from the Nicky Henderson-trained Vegas Blue.

The rider was just about to make his challenge on board Vegas Blue and when unfortunately the horse clipped heels with others having been short of room and McGrath was taken to the floor.

Perfect Percy, partnered by Jordan Nailor, and the Alexander Thorne-ridden Lord Howard were also brought down but got up straight away and luckily enough all three horses got up safe, but for McGrath he was the one to come out of the fall the worst.

The rider was awake and talking after the incident when met by the paramedics at the track and he has since been taken to hospital suffering with injuries such as a dislocated hip and his shoulder.

(Credit ATR) Henderson said: “He had some surgery last night because he dislocated his hip and his shoulder. I haven’t heard much more.

“He might have fractures in those areas. He’s having X-rays and further examinations to see what else there is.“His head and back are good.

It’s just his shoulder and hip. He had an operation last night to put them back into place. It is possible he may need another piece of surgery.”
