Aidan O'Brien is set to bring over the two mares for this year’s 1000 Guineas, as he will look to land the classic for the fourth year running, after Mother Earth’s success last season and Love and Hermosa the seasons before.

Tenebrism headed into the Cheveley Park on the back of one solitary victory which came at Naas in a 5f maiden, where she bolted up by just under 4 lengths.

She showed a tremendous turn of foot to claim Group 1 glory that day in the Cheveley Park Stakes, and she will now look to replicate that effort on her return to Newmarket, tackling the mile trip for the first time in her short but sweet career, will that suit her? Only time will tell.

She currently heads the latest betting for the second Classic of the season, a race where Aidan O’Brien will look to win his 8th running of this fascinating contest.

The most exposed runner in the field, this horse has run 19 times in her career with just the 3 wins to her name and hasn’t been running in any races of this calibre, only coming 2nd in a Listed contest at Newmarket last October, but she was 80/1 that day so has caused a slight shock once before.

She is the lowest rated in the field so really needs to step up to land a blow in this. The race does look slightly out of reach for her but is a nice day out for her owners.

Another runner who heads over from Ireland for Ger Lyons, she is the second lowest rated horse in the contest, but definitely doesn’t arrive at this race without a decent enough chance, who has been fairly backed leading up this race.

She won a Maiden race in fine style at Leopardstown over 6 furlongs last June, beating Radiyka by just under 4 lengths. She has already had the run this season, landing a Listed race at Dundalk on the all-weather by 6 lengths, surging clear when asked of by Colin Keane.

She needs to really step up in class to land a classic like this, but the mile trip suits with the right conditions in her favour. She needs to step up a fair bit to land this, but Ger Lyons is another trainer that knows how to really get them ready for this.

Andrew Balding is set to have another stellar season once again, and he looks to have a decent chance of landing a classic early on into the new season.

Sandrine has the career record of 3 wins in just 5 races, including a Group 2 fillies race at Newmarket over 6 furlongs last July.

She is already a Group winner at this course but lacks the race fitness for this season and hasn’t run at this sort of trip before, which is something that is against the Andrew Balding filly, but she is clearly a classy individual who could step up to land this.

Age: 3

Days: 15

Will Buick, Charlie Appleby and Godolphin have kick started this season in fine style, with multiple winners to their names already and lining up the current red-hot favourite for the 2000 Guineas on the Saturday.

Wild Beauty looks the class act in this field, with 4 career wins to her name and a winner in the Group 3 Fred Darling at Newbury at the start of the month, beating Jumbly by half a length.

She won the Grade 1 Natalma Stakes at Woodbine last season, when taking a huge step up in class to win that race, but she won it in fantastic style by 2 and a quarter lengths.

She improved massively that day in Canada, and that improvement might not have stopped for this daughter of Frankel. She is very nicely bred and will look to improve the winter months after winning on her first start of the new season.

She will be very hard to beat, providing the step up in trip to a mile suits her, but it looks as if there will be no issues with her pedigree and previous performances.

T: George Boughey
N/A
Age: 3
Weight: 9-0
OR: 109
Days: 19

George Boughey is another young trainer to keep on the right side of going forward, and one of his stable stars fillies looks set to line up in this classic contest after winning the Group 3 Nell Gwyn stakes at Newmarket last time out, a race that has previously been won by some fantastic fillies down the years and is a brilliant trial for the 1000 Guineas.

Cachet only won once last season, which was on her debut at Newmarket back in May last year, but she was contesting in some top two-year-old races and running very well without winning.

She was second in the Rockfel Stakes behind Hello You and was slightly unlucky in running when being forced to run a different way the jockey intended.

Arguably her best career performance to date was in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf at Del Mar last November, where she finished 4th but only beaten by 3 lengths or so, a further length ahead of Hello You.

She looks the sort to improve with each run, so an exciting 3yo season ahead for this daughter of Aclaim, with bigger and better things surely planned for this horse going ahead in the season now the mile trip looks like it suits, opening a few more avenues for her should she not be good enough to win this.

Days: 231

Jessica Harrington sends over Discoveries who was last seen winning the Group 1 Moyglare Stud Stakes at the Curragh and will now look to blossom as a three-year-old which certainly looks a possibility.

She has more experience than the favourite and has run at the further trip of 7 furlongs, as she looks to tackle the mile trip for the first time in her career.

\She wasn’t particularly fancied to win the Moyglare on her last start of the season, but won nicely by just under a length, staying on nicely to the line.

She suggested that day that the step up in trip will suit, but she is lacking the experience at Newmarket, which the Aidan O’Brien favourite has in her favour.

Jessica Harrington’s filly is well bred and is certainly bred for this sort of trip, with the potential to go even further down the line, her sister Alpha Centauri was top class and won multiple Group 1’s in her career, so things certainly look up for Discoveries.

Hello You

J: Rossa Ryan
T: David Loughnane

Age: 3
Weight: 9-0
OR: 108
Days: 19

The winner of the Rockfel Stakes at Newmarket last September, before going on to finish 5th at the Breeders Cup, not beaten far, but was in behind Cachet that day. David Loughnane’s filly was 3rd behind Cachet once again in the Nell Gwyn Stakes at Newmarket last time out, beaten by just under 5 lengths.

Hello You looks the sort to improve with each run and could be a force to be reckoned with in her 3-year-old season in races that aren’t exactly of this quality.

It is very close on paper with a few of these at the lower end of the market, but she has some form at the mile trip so that could play to her strengths as she looks to outrun the large odds.

Age: 3
Weight: 9-0

Days: 24

Andre Fabre’s filly is the second of two runners coming over from France to line up in this classic contest, like the other French runner she has the benefit of a run this season already.

She was a length and a half second behind Malavath in the French Guineas trial, which on paper was a decent run before lining up in this race.

Again, like the other French horse she has only really won on the softer conditions which is typical of French raiders, winning a Group 1 at Longchamp over 1 mile in the heavy going, which looked like it played very much to her strengths on that day.

She is a winner at the trip but hasn’t run in the better conditions which is forecasted for the race on Sunday.

She is a winner at the top level over the mile trip, with race fitness on her side, she certainly arrives at this race with a lot of respect to her name for one of the top trainers in France.

Frankie Dettori

Tuesday

J: Frankie Dettori
T: A P O'Brien
N/A
Age: 3
Weight: 9-0
OR: N/A
Days: 35

The second and final runner for the Aidan O’Brien yard is another filly with just the two runs to her name.

The well-bred filly of Galileo had just the one run last season as a 2yo, in a Maiden at The Curragh where she was beaten by the second favourite in the market Discoveries by just a short head, with that form being franked as the latter has won a Group 1 since.

The one and major thing that falls in the favour of Tuesday is race fitness, she is coming off the back of a run at Naas last month, a race that she won with ease by just under 2 lengths, with some fairly nice-looking horses in behind her that day.

She will have to take the huge step up in class to win this after just coming off two maiden runs, but as we all know by now Aidan O’Brien is the master of getting a horse to improve wonders to win a classic, especially when they go from a 2yo to a 3yo, and with the breeding this filly has she certainly looks a right contender in this.

Race fitness will play a huge key factor for her chances in this, something that a few of these cannot boats, but it does slightly beg the question, why did the yard give her a preparation run before this, or why did she only have the one run as a 2yo, only time will answer those questions.

James Ferguson is a young new trainer to keep an eye on and he has his horses running in phenomenal form, currently operating at a 57%-win strike rate for the last 14 days.

Mise En Scene won her first two starts as a 2yo, winning at Haydock and then a Group 3 fillies race at Goodwood back in August of last season. She did slightly disappoint since then on, although was running in some top-class events at Newmarket and at the Breeders Cup meeting.

She stepped up to the mile for a first time when running in the Filles Mile at Newmarket last October, finishing a 3-length 3rd behind the runaway winner Inspiral who unfortunately doesn’t line up in this which to the eye doesn’t particularly look like a bad run at all, but did look to lack the speed for a mile, especially against some top-class prospects.

There are question marks on whether the mile trip suits this horse, and she hasn’t had the run this year, but vibes are great from the yard, and she could run a huge race in this, to land a first classic for her trainer.

The one of two runners coming over from France, the Francis Henri Graffard horse arrives at this race fresh off a fantastic performance in the Group 3 French Guineas trials at Deauville at the start of the month.

She won well that day and overcame a fairly lengthy break to win by 1 and a half lengths, beating Zellie who finished the race 2nd that day.

She comes into this race with a lot of respect off the back of that performance but needs to prove the better conditions as she has only really won or ran well on soft and heavy conditions, she ran on better ground earlier on in her career but finished in the places both times, but the lack of experience then might have caught her out.

She has the fitness edge and is one of the runners who has the most experience in the race, definitely a contender should she handle the ground conditions, the undulations of Newmarket and stepping back up to the 1-mile trip.

One of the least exposed runners in this field with just the two runs to her name, coming 2nd on just her first start last season at Newmarket in a class 3 contest, she was behind Ribbon Rose that day who looks a nice prospect in her own right.

She was a very impressive winner of a Fillies Maiden contest at Newmarket last time out, beating another nice filly by just under 4 lengths.

She was incredibly impressive last time out and does look a nice prospect but does look slightly up against it in this classic contest but does have race fitness and has Newmarket form, so might outrun her huge odds of 25/1.

Even if this race is slightly out of reach for her, she is certainly one to keep an eye on for the season ahead.

Ralph Beckett has kick started the new season in decent form, and he lines up Prosperous Voyage in the first filly’s classic of the season. She only won once last season when landing a class 4 contest at Epsom last July but hasn’t won since.

She was contesting in some decent affairs at the back end of last season and was 2 and a half lengths second behind Inspiral in her last run of the season.

That arguably looks one of the best pieces of form on paper and without Inspiral in this contest, she could go one better to win this, with the trip clearly suiting judged on her last run of the season last term.
