2020 Clarence House Chase Guide

1. Capeland

Trainer - Paul Nicholls

Jockey - Harry Cobden

In this small field set to go to post for the Clarence House Chase Capeland starts us off and this eight year old for the 11 time champion trainer is a lovely horse but should be outclassed by the two market leaders.

He has course and distance form this season winning a Class 2 event nicely and would have done the same on his seasonal debut if not being disqualified.

He has performed nicely for the majority of this season but having been outclassed in a lesser Grade two last time and now jumping into this sphere makes him vulnerable.

2. Defi Du Seuil

Trainer - Philip Hobbs

Jockey - Barry Geraghty

Philip Hobbs' superstar is back seeking another Grade One victory to add to his illustrious career already and he has a huge chance in what will be one of the toughest races of his season.

This term he has raced twice and is still unbeaten after scoring on his seasonal debut in the Grade Two Shloer Chase and then he backed that up by landing the third Grade One of his career in the Tingle Creek at Sandown.

He is set to renew his rivalry with the superb veteran Un De Sceaux who he narrowly beat at Sandown before the turn of the year and the thought of them two being locked in a battle up the run in is what we all love racing for.

However, we feel that the younger Defi Du Seuil has more scope and larger will to win than the 12 year old and it should be a perfect stepping stone before the Champion Chase at the Cheltenham festival.

3. Janika

Trainer - Nicky Henderson

Jockey - Daryl Jacob

Janika goes for the inform Nicky Henderson who has been on fire this week with his runners especially at Ludlow and Newbury and it would not be surprise to see this horse go well.

It would be a shock if he won the contest but if he ran to a high standard and grabbed a place it would set him up perfectly for the Cheltenham festival.

He won over fences at Exeter on his debut in a taking performance in the Grade Two Haldon Gold Cup, he then entered the Tingle Creek where he was fourth behind the two market leaders.

He then went for a run over hurdles, stepping up in trip in the Relkeel Hurdle which looked a mistake but now back over fences he should go well.

4. Marracudja

Trainer - Dan Skelton

Jockey - Harry Skelton

The 66/1 shot that looks totally out of place in this field is Marracudja who is very suprisingly been entered for this Grade One and it would not be a surprise if he does not finish the race.

He won nicely in a Class Two last time out and in those sort of races he warrants respect but up against expereinced Group One winners he is very opposable.

5. Un De Sceaux

Trainer - Willie Mullins

Jockey - Paul Townend

The final runner in the contest is the veteran that is sure to make the running and a three time previous winner of this race Un De Sceaux really will not be far away.

He has won multiple Grade Ones throughout his career including two at the Cheltenham festival and also landing this contest in three out of the last four renewals.

Having taken Defi De Seuil all the way to the line in the Tingle Creek we are hoping for another similar match up but he will have to be at his to grab his fourth victory in this contest.
