The Curragh Sunday Preview

The first race of the day in Ireland sees a big fielded seven furlong Maiden contest that sees some nice youngsters heading to post.

We are siding with the Ger Lyons trained Colour Sergeant who has been very unlucky in her runs to date always seeming to bump into a superstar.

The two year old has raced five times and has not finished outside the top three on all of his runs with three seconds in a row in his last three.

Over course and distance he was runner up to Group One winner Thunder Moon, then two starts ago he was second again this time behind Brazil for Aidan O'Brien and last time out at Cork he was behind a nice type for Jessica Harrington.

He has shown clear form on both good and soft ground and this looks his time to get off the mark.

One of the feature races on the day at The Curragh on Sunday is the Group Three Weld Stakes and our pick is the Jessica Harrington trained No Speak Alexander.

The two year old filly has some strong form heading into the race and if Monday who races on Friday at Newmarket drops out then she should get the run of the race.

The juvenile has raced four times this season with three smart runs with her first win three starts back at Roscommon before heading to Deauville for the Group Two Prix du Calvados and finishing a close up fourth.

Last time out she produced a career best to finish runner up to the Aidan O'Brien trained Monday in a Listed contest and she should progress again.

With no bet for us in the 14:30 we move straight onto the next event in the Nursery Handicap over a mile and Jessica Harrington field the talented Equilove.

The youngster has been seen four times in her career placing in three of her four outings and last time out giving a career best to finish second in a similar event at Naas.

She ran off a mark of 68 last time out and has not been penalised for her runner up performance last time out which makes her one to watch back in this company.

A strong maiden sees 17 go to post and a horse that we believe will sneak under the radar in this event is the John James Feane trained Simply A Breeze.

The daughter of Casamento is slightly more exposed than most of the field but has been running in better company than this and dropping down to a maiden could be interesting.

The four year old on her last two starts has finished midfield in two Group Three events at The Curragh and Gowran last time.

She drops in trip and grade and it should see her go close.

The progressive Order Of Australia goes for us in our penultimate tipping race and this Aidan O'Brien trained three year old looks a stayer in the making.

Having been tried between 10 and 12 furlongs during his career it is clear to us that this 1m4f is what she really wants, with her pedigree backing that up being a son of Derby winner Australia.

The colt finally got off the mark last time out at Dundalk and if converting that form to the turf he has to be the one to beat.

Our final selection of the meeting in Ireland comes in the feature race of the day in the Group Three Comer Group International Loughbrown Stakes.

We like the look of the Joseph O'Brien trained Traisha and although the trainer has two in the race we think this filly is the best of the bunch.

The four year old has been seen three times this term, winning nicely on seasonal debut at Killarney and then backing that up at Gowran when third on his first step up to 14 furlongs.

Over the same trip at Naas he was a narrow second to the Aidan O'Brien trained Passion in a Group Three and she has since gone on to run well in a Group One.
