Stateside Sunday Preview - 04/07/21

Sunday US Picks

Belmont 18:31 - Tariff War

This 3-y-o gelding ran a blinder at Churchill Downs on debut in May and he is expected to go close in this event with that experience banked.

The second that day has already followed up in a similar event so the form has a solid look to it and Chad Brown, who is in typically strong order, teams up with top jockey Irad Ortiz.

Belmont 22:12 - Public Sector

Our second US selection on Sunday evening is Kingman colt Public Sector.

This European-bred 3-y-o was highly tried as a juvenile and he got off the mark in impressive fashion when victorious here in June.

He takes a step up in grade now but he is a progressive type who may prove tough to contain from stall 2.

Gulfstream 18:52 - Allworthy

The strong pace over 1m suited Allworthy when he was victorious here in May so a reproduction of that race would make him tough to beat.

He is by far the least exposed in this field as a 3-y-o which means he get a handy weight allowance.

Stall 5.

22:28 Los Alamitos - Classier

A small but select field for the Los Alamitos Derby in which we fancy Bob Baffert’s second strong to upset the odds.

Classier was sent off 6/4 favourite against today’s rival at Santa Anita last time out but he shaped like a horse that needed the run and at the prices we are happy to give him another chance to strike.

He has the plum draw and Mike Smith rides.
