12:15 - Palladium

Sandown hosts the feature card of the weekend with seven superb races including a Grade One over hurdles that is the feature of the afternoon.

The first race of the day is the Juvenile Hurdle over two miles and Nicky Henderson's Palladium although a short price should take all the beating in this one.

The youngster finished second on his debut in a Maiden Hurdle at Warwick and his trainer has said that the four year old is sure to come on for his first experience over hurdles.

12:45 - Silver Forever

The second contest of the day sees the start of the bigger contests of the day with the Listed Mares Hurdle and in this small fielded event we like the Paul Nicholls trained Silver Forever.

This six year old mare has been fairly consistent throughout her career running nicely in bumpers last season but now over hurdles looks a different animal all together.

She has had three outings this term winning her first two nicely at Chepstow and Newbury, seeing off Nicky Henderson's Floressa who looks a smart mare.

Last time out she just found a few to good but she was giving away weight that day and now back in field which looks slightly easier she could dominate.

13:20 - Dashing Perk

The Class 3 Handicap over two and a half miles sees a really bright field of runners go to post with many in with a chance but for us we like the look of Dashing Perk.

The Dr Richard Newland trained gelding was a course and distance winner on his first start since October 2018 and he will be sure to be much fitter now for that run.

Holding course and distance form at Sandown is huge especially heading back into a similar contest and for nine years of age this horse is fairly unexposed.

13:50 - Delire Destruval 4/1

Another classy race follows and the Class 2 Handicap sees many horses looking to prove a point and in the future could run in better Handicap contests.

Ben Pauling is back having winners after a tough period for his yard and he fields Delire D'Estruval who after having his seasonal debut should now be much stronger.

He finished seventh at Ascot in heavy ground behind some nice horses and last season did the same and then went on to land a contest over course and distance at Sandown.

We are hoping the horse can go on and do the same with similar traits to how he started his term off last season.

14:25 - Fiddlerontheroof 2/1

The feature contest of the day is the Grade One Tolworth Hurdle that over the years has seen some remarkable horses win this race and we believe there is going to be another this time around.

The five year old won a good Irish bumper on his final start of last season and since then has moved to Tizzard's yard and made his debut at Chepstow in the Grade Two Persian War Novices Hurdle.

He was gambled on massively for that contest but could only finish a decent second just being outstayed by last seasons third in the Champion Bumper, Thyme Hill.

He then made his second start in England at Wincanton when again in another battle with a smart horse and finished second again but today looks an easier contest.

In what looked his big chance to get off the mark he headed to Sandown in heavy conditions and he did not disappoint bolting up over course and distance and that is what makes him the one to beat.

15:00 - Theatre Guide 20/1 & On Tour 16/1

The big Handicap Chase of the day is the Veterans Class 2 contest which this year will be raced in honour of the late Houblon Des Obeaux who sadly passed away recently.

With such a big field heading to post we have two big fancies at huge prices in the contest starting with On Tour for Evan Williams and this 12 year old was third in the contest last year and now having first time headgear it would not be a surprise to see him go well in this again.

Another who was smart in this contest a season ago was the second placed Theatre Guide who heads into the event off the same mark and now with Robbie Power on board could spark a big revival.

15:35 - Gunnery

The final contest of the day sees a Class 2 Handicap and the favourite Gunnery for Nicky Henderson was superb on his last outing and although heading into this under a penalty looks the one to beat.

The seven year old has raced four times for the yard over hurdles but before that was a smart flat horse that if was taught to jump properly could be a serious asset over hurdles.

He won at Market Rasen before being very poor at Wincanton but put that right last time out at Doncaster and in a quick turn around should still have a lot to offer.
