The first of our two each way selections in the race is the Jean-Claude Rouget trained Makaloun for owners Aga Khan and this horse is thought of very highly in France.

The three year old son of Bated Breath has been seen six times during his career, winning all four of his first four starts, between 7, 8 and 9f.

Having landed Group Three and Listed events on both good and soft ground, he stepped up for his first Group One event over 10f in the Criterium de Saint-Cloud and was a close up third behind the smart Gear Up for Mark Johnston.

Always aimed to be a horse in his prime as a three year old, he was bought back this season at Chantilly over 9f and landed the Group Three Prix de Guiche.

That looked a perfect prep run on good to soft for the French Derby and sure to come on for the run he looks a big each way player for France.

Christophe Soumillon is the man you want on board in these types of races and he gets the mount on Sunday.

We think the master French trained Jean-Claude Rouget could land a 1-2 in the Group One on Sunday as we fancy his other runner Cheshire Academy to also run a big race at an each way price.

The three year old was first seen on a racecourse in November getting off the mark in a 10 runner Maiden at Pau over 10f, revelling in the distance.

He made it back to back wins in February this year in a small runner Conditions event and when seeking the hat-trick last time out put up another decent effort.

The colt passed the post first in the Group Three Prix Noailles at ParisLongchamp over this races' trip, but was demoted to second in the Stewards room.

Nevertheless it was another strong staying effort and he could be an even better animal on a sounder surface.

At a double figure price he looks a solid each way contender for a trainer who has won three of the last five renewals of this race.
