Newmarket Sunday Preview - 05/05/19

13:50 - Corelli

The first race on the second day at Newmarket is the Class 2 Qatar Racing Handicap over 1 mile 4 handicap and we have gone for the John Gosden trained Corelli.

This four year old gelding is very lightly raced compared to the rest of the field and in his five runs he has only finished outside of the top three places in one of those contests.

He has three wins to his name including his last run in November at Southwell on the all weather where he landed a decent Class 3 contest and if improving for that run will be tough to beat on Sunday.

14:20 - Veracious

The second race of the day from the Cambridgeshire track is the Group 2 Dahlia Stakes over 1 mile 1 furlongs and we have gone for Veracious to take the contest.

This Sir Michael Stoute trained four year old filly has had six starts to her name and showed plenty of ability in all of them being in and around the frame in some good Group contests.

Her best run came at Sandown in the Atalanta Stakes where seeing off five other to take the Group 3 contest and anything similar to that performance will see her take this race.

14:55 - Summerghand

The Class 2 Longholes Handicap over six furlongs sees many smart and pacy individuals and we have sided with the David O'Meara trained Summerghand.

This five year old gelding had a great season last year over this distance and got straight back to it on his seasonal debut when finishing second in photo finish over course and distance.

Has gone up three pounds for that smart performance but having the same conditions as last month and handling the track well he definitely enters calculations.

15:35 - Fairyland

The feature race of the contest and the second Group 1 in Britain during the flat season is the 1000 Guineas over a mile and we have gone for the Aidan O'Brien trained Fairyland.

This three year old filly is one of many from the Ballydoyle team but she was a class act as a two year old winning four out of her five races.

Her best performance came on her last run at Newmarket when getting up late in the day to in the Group 1 Cheveley Park Stakes. There are stamina questions but has a live chance on Sunday.

16:10 - Electrical Storm

The next race on the card is the Hot Streak Maiden Stakes over five furlongs and in this hot contest full of youngsters we have gone with Godolphin's Electrical Storm.

This exciting two year old has raced once already in his career finishing a good second over course and distance behind another of this owners horses.

With similar conditions that will suit and now more experience for his last run this half brother to the superb Ribchester is the one to beat.

16:45 - Maqsad

The penultimate race of the day at Newmarket is the Listed Pretty Polly Stakes over 1 mile 2 furlongs and in this seven runner field we have gone for the William Haggas trained Maqsad.

This three year old filly has got better with every run so far running nicely at Newmarket and Yarmouth last year showing plenty of ability and then on her seasonal debut got off the mark in style.

This came over a mile at Newmarket beating 10 runners when staying on well and she looks like this step up in trip will suit even better.

17:20 - Never Do Nothing

The final race of the Guineas festival is a Class 3 Handicap over 1 mile 2 furlongs and Never Do Nothing for trainer Andrew balding is our selection.

Oisin Murphy gets the ride on Sunday and this gelding looks to be a very progressive horse not being worse than third place on all four of his runs winning two of those in the process.

Finished the season seeking a hat-trick and although he couldn't quite deliver over course and distance last time out he shaped nicely and has a great chance.
