Newmarket Saturday Preview - 20/07/19

14:05 - Fromnowon

The first race of the day from the July course at Newmarket is the Fillies Auction Stakes over seven furlongs and we have gone for the Richard Hannon trained Fromnowon.

This two year old filly looks a really smart juvenile for the Hannon yard after making her debut earlier this month at Newbury and she showed plenty of ability finishing a smart second in a 13 runner field.

She will get the good to firm conditions again this weekend from what she ran on last time and she will be sure to come on for the race experience .

14:40 - Sparkle Roll

The feature race of the day at Newmarket on Saturday is the Listed Aphrodite Fillies Stakes over 1 mile 4 furlongs and Sparkle Roll for John Gosden looks a class above the rest.

The three year old has raced three times so far this campaign and she made a bright start backing up her potential from her juvenile days by winning in a good Novice Stakes at Sandown.

She has been running in better races than this so far this season and to a good standard, especially last time out at Royal Ascot when a good third in the Group 2 Ribblesdale Stakes.

That is the best form on offer in the race and if performing to the same standard will be the one to beat.

15:15 - Queen Of Burgundy

The first Handicap of the day comes over six furlongs and in a very competitive small field we have sided with the three year old filly Queen Of Burgundy.

This consistent runner for Christine Dunnett has been running to a good standard this season over this distance with two seconds and a win in her last five races.

Her best runs have come over quick ground and on her only start over good to firm she got her only win to date at Leicester and today she is three pounds lower than that mark.

15:50 - Petrus

The Class 2 Handicap sees a bigger field but still a competitive race over a mile and Petrus for the Brian Meehan camp looks to have a big run in him.

The gelding has raced to a high standard in these type of races this season with his best runs coming when he has been on quicker ground.

Petrus started the season off superbly at Doncaster in the spring mile landing the 16 runner handicap and from there he won at Bath and finished a good fourth at Newbury.

He was less than impressive at Royal Ascot in the Royal Hunt Cup but that was on soft ground and last time out at Sandown he got back to quick ground and was much better and if back to his best is a player.

16:25 - King Ademar

King Ademar looks a serious contender in the Class 4 Novice Stakes over seven furlongs and now starting to live up to his potential he should dominate this field.

The Martyn Meade trained three year old is still without a win in his six races to date but has ran to a good standard in many of them finishing second in four races.

He was poor at Royal Ascot but bounced back last time out at Windsor where he won the race but was demoted to second in the stewards room and a similar run here could see him get off the mark.

17:00 - Ironclad

The final selection from Newmarket comes in the Class 3 Handicap over 1 mile 2 furlongs and in another small fielded race we have gone with Hugo Palmer's Ironclad.

This three year old colt comes from a good family being a son of leading sire Dubawi and from his four runs to date has progressed very nicely.

Last time out he finally got off the mark in a maiden at Beverley and he looks the type to take well to handicaps and should have a lot more to offer.
