With no bet in the first race we move straight onto the Listed Fairway Stakes over 1m2f and the Ed Dunlop trained John Leeper will not be far away.

The son of Frankel was seen once as a juvenile finishing a good fourth in a 10 runner Maiden Stakes at Doncaster on good ground, finishing behind some nice horses that have since gone on to win .

John Leeper also franked the form of that race on seasonal debut this term, being stepped up to 1m2f and landing a nice event at Newcastle by four lengths.

Being closely related to Virgin Snow shows that the step up in trip is where the best of his runs will come over and if coming on for that win at Newcastle he is the one to beat.

Next up is the Listed King Charles II Stakes over seven furlongs and the horse that has caught the eye for us in this field is the Godolphin owned Cloudbridge.

Charlie Appleby's three year old was seen three times last term, promising so much after winning well at Leicester on debut, but was then sent to York into the Group Three Acomb Stakes and ran no race at all.

He was waited on slightly and was then dropped to six furlongs at Kempton in the Group Three Sirenia Stakes and finished a nose second to The Mighty Gurkha.

The son of Hard Spun is expected to much better as a three year old and if fully tuned up looks a value player at 5/1

The Class 2 Handicap over six furlongs sees a big field head to post and with that in mind we have two selections in the event.

The first is the the three year old Jumby cost 45,000gns as a yearling and in his three starts to date has shown enough ability to warrant having a punt on today on his first try at this trip.

The son of New Bay won on debut back in July at Ascot on good ground over seven furlongs, seeing off the highly talented New Mandate.

He then backed that up at Newbury when third in a Listed event over seven furlongs, running well in behind two smart types.

The colt was last seen in September stepped up to a mile at Newbury and he looked more to be a horse of pace than stamina when fading into third.

Tried at 6f for the first time on seasonal debut, he looked a big eye-catcher when getting blocked in running and still doing well to get third.

He runs in this event off the same mark and if getting a clear passage looks to be the one to beat, with the form of his seasonal bow being franked since.

At a bigger price the Charles Hills trained Jadwal looks to be extremely well handicapped and at 14/1 could be a big each way player.

The three year old looked to have some ability last season, getting off the mark at the second time of asking over course and distance, but after that slightly struggled.

He came back for his seasonal reappearance at Kempton in April and was a good second behind a nice type for Archie Watson, who has since franked the form.

The gelding then headed to Lingfield at the end of last month and was again second, this time by a neck and racing off only 2lb higher makes him a big player for a yard that is thriving this term.

John & Thady Gosden
Age: 4
Weight: 9-6

The Class 3 Handicap over seven furlongs sees some very progressive horses take to post and Riot looks to be one massively on the upgrade.

The John & Thady Gosden trained gelding got off the mark at the fourth time of asking at Kempton in September 2019 over seven furlongs and then was off the track for 13 months.

He returned in October last year and massively needed the run after that long lay off, but at the start of April went to Chelmsford and was a much better third.

He got back on turf for the first time in over two years at Newmarket on his second start of the season and just ran no sort of race, being pushed along a fair way out.

However, he bounced straight back to from at the end of last month at Newcastle when a good second behind Zip, who went on to frank the form next time out.

Needs to start acting on turf but only 3lb higher than that second he looks a player.

The penultimate event of the day at Newmarket is the 1m4f Fillies' Novice Stakes and we are siding with the Charlie Appleby trained Sayyida.

The Godolphin owned filly is a half sister to Derby winner Masar showing she has stamina in her pedigree and on her two starts to date has shown ability.

She made her debut at Newmarket on quick ground and a combination of needing the run and the quick ground saw her get beat easily.

Next time out she learnt for her first experience and was a better second at Nottingham, finishing a length behind Little Kitten for John Gosden.

She makes her three year old debut in this event, going up half a mile and it might bring big improvement.

The final event of the afternoon is the Class 4 five furlong Handicap and at a tasty price, Benefit Street for Robert Cowell could out run his odds.

Rossa Ryan jumps on board with the shrewd jockey really coming into his own this season and he could be the difference with this horse jumping on for the first time.

The four year old has shown glimmers of his ability this season when a good second on the all weather two starts ago over six furlongs at Lingfield.

Back on turf at the start of May he could only finish midfield, but now dropping down in trip which should suit this pacy sort, and being nicely handicapped, he looks a big each way player.
