Newmarket Saturday Preview - 13/10/2018

1:50

Waldstern

The first of seven high quality races from HQ is the Godolphin Flying Start Zetland Stakes. This race - a listed contest over ten furlongs, is headed in the market by John Gosden trained WALDSTERN.

Despite not justifying favouritism in a novice stakes event at Haydock last month, this son of Sea The Stars can once again be victorious for the partnership Gosden and Dettori, who are in scintillating form.

Norway showed some promise in a maiden over the pond last week, and is the best Irish hope in the field.

2:25

Kadar

The horse that beat Waldstern at Haydock - KADAR lines up in the next at Newmarket; the Masar Godolphin Autumn Stakes.

Sold for 700,000 euros in May, he was impressive on his debut in that Haydock novice over a mile, and looks potentially smart. The form can be franked should Waldstern take the first, and Karl Burke’s yard is another in top form.

Makes the jump to Group 3 company, and shouldn’t be too far out of his depth. Should go close with the french raider.

3:00

Too Darn Hot

Undoubtedly, the feature race of the day is the Darley Dewhurst Stakes, a Group 1 for colts over 7 furlongs, and you will be brave individual should you be against TOO DARN HOT.

This son of Dubawi and Dar Re Mi has been too darn good for his rivals in his first three starts - two of which at Sandown. Most recently, he won the Group 2 Champagne Stakes at Doncaster and beat some good opponents that day and can progress as one next season’s top 2yo’s to look out for.

Will be a strong favourite for the Guineas - the first classic of 2019, should he take this prize here.

3:40

Limini

The big handicap of the day is also the longest race of the day - the Dubai 500,000 Cesarewitch Stakes over 2 miles and 2 furlongs, and the eye is certainly drawn to former high-class hurdler LIMINI.

Off for 503 days before returning to the scene at the Galway Festival in the summer, it took her three starts for her to win her first race on the flat.

She beat stable companion Low Sun that day and that form looks strong enough to play a part here.

4:15

Barristan the Bold

BARRISTAN THE BOLD has been a regular preview favourite in recent weeks, and can take his career wins to three in the mydubai Nursery Handicap.

He has two wins to his name over this trip, including a hard-fought win at Chester last time out. This is a much easier track than Chester, but will need to negotiate Newmarket’s iconic dip, along with carrying top weight.

Paddy Pilley takes off 3lb, and will be seeking to provide Tom Dascombe with another good run.

4:50

Emily Goldfinch

EMILY GOLDFINCH has really turned the tide for Phil McEntee in recent weeks and looks to go for a four-timer in the Dubai Life British EBF Boadicea Stakes.

A listed contest over 6f, she makes the step up from Group 2 company having landed the big series sprint handicap here at Newmarket this time last week.

Rossa Ryan once again doing the steering, could provide connections with another quick win. Will bid to make all.

5:25

Awesometank

The final race of the day is the Darley Stakes, a hotly-contested Group 3 event over 9 furlongs, and AWESOMETANK, who has been in prolific form for William Haggas this term - in particular at Sundown, will look to carry that winning thread to Suffolk.

Champion jockey booked is of high interest, and will look to lead from the front, albeit that it is very tough to do on the Rowley Mile. Good chance.
