Newmarket Saturday Preview - 03/08/19

14:05 - Bella Vita

The Newmarket card gets underway with the Listed Chalice Stakes and Bella Vita for trainer Eve Johnson Houghton is very hard to look past.

This three year old filly is the most progressive horse in the field winning four races in a row and has an overall record of four wins in just six runs.

She was stepped up to 1 mile 4 furlongs last time out at Ascot and handled it superbly and although this a big step up in class she looks like she will have enough to handle it.

14:40 - Three Coins

The Fillies Nursery Handicap over six furlongs looks a competitive juvenile contest and Three Coins for trainer Richard Fahey is a very interesting prospect.

This youngster has only raced three times in his career but looks to now be getting the hang of things and being upped to six furlongs for the first time on Saturday should work in his favour.

This will be a step up for the two year old having his Nursery debut after getting a win on debut and a second on his latest start he has confidence going into this one.

15:15 - Amber Island

Novice contests are notoriously tough to call with many of the runners having the first run of their career but Amber Island for Godolphin looks a special talent.

William Buick is back on board which is a good thing for connections and this two year old is just the second foal out of Exceed and Excel with the Grandsire being the superb Dubawi.

Godolphin took this contest last year and will be looking to do the same again and this season they have produced a very special newcomer already.

15:50 - Jaleel

The Class 3 Handicap over seven furlongs sees eight runners go to post and our selection is the Roger Varian trained Jaleel who's form has been boosted heading into this race.

This season he has been in some good form most of the time with figures of 321 before finishing a weak ninth last time out that he will need to bounce back from.

Two starts ago he got off the mark for the season when scoring over course and distance and he had a huge form booster when he beat Dirty Rascal who won at Goodwood on Wednesday.

16:25 - My Reward

The next contest is a small runner event that is highly competitive with all of the runners being at a similar ability but we have gone with My Reward.

This horse like Jaleel has hit his form boosted after the race he finished second in last time out, the third placed runner won a good race on the first day at Goodwood.

That run at Ripon is the peak of his form this season and he looks to be heading in the right direction. He is also a very versatile performer on different grounds.

17:00 - Manorah

The final selection from us with No Bet advised in the last race of the day is Manorah for trainer Roger Varian and this filly looks a big improver back at this distance.

This three year old is a very well bred runner who has got the hang of things in his last two runs winning nicely at Nottingham over this distance and coming second over slightly further on the July Course.

Coming back to the trip of his last win is a plus and running well off the same mark last time shows she can handle it and is a live player.
