Newmarket Cambridgeshire Meeting - Saturday Preview - 28/09/19

13:50 - Juddmonte Royal Lodge Stakes - Highland Chief 9/2

This is an intriguing renewal of the Royal Lodge with favourite Kameko setting a fair standard, but it is the Chesham Stakes 3rd Highland Chief that catches the eye.

Pinatubo and Lope Y Fernandez have advertised the form of that race nicely and it was also backed up by a fast time on the clock.

The yard won the race in 2013 and it seems as though this son of Gleneagles is best caught fresh.

14:25 - Juddmonte Cheveley Park Stakes - Raffle Prize 5/4

Although short enough at 11/8, Raffle Prize is 10lb clear on ratings here and one of these will have to improve markedly to cause her problems.

History suggests having more racecourse experience is a big plus in this contest (she has had 5 starts) and the forecasted ground looks perfect.

15:00 - Middle Park Stakes - Threat 12/1

Mums Tipple and Earthlight possess an unknown quantity as unbeaten 2-y-o’s with the latter being the form pick, but at 12/1 we believe Threat is slightly over priced.

Richard Hannon claims this is his #1 juvenile (trains Mums Tipple) and he has already won the Champagne Stakes & Gimrack this season, as well as finishing second in the Richmond and Coventry.

15:40 - bet365 Cambridgeshire Handicap - Fifth Position 16/1 & Mordin 25/1

A typically trappy renewal of the Cambridgeshire, in which we are advising two e/w pokes with bookmakers offering numerous extra place enhancements.

Firstly, Fifth Position is dropping down from group company and he is arguably the form pick, having mixed it with some smart horses this season. His victory over Space Blues reads especially well along with his 3rd at Goodwood in May, which came behind two confirmed Group performers.

Secondly, Mordin, who finished second in this last season returns with the talented 7lb claimer Marco Ghiani onboard. He was going on at the finish that day, looking a shade unlucky, and the riders claim almost negotiates his rise in the weights.

16:50 - British Stallion Studs EBF 'Jersey Lily' Fillies' Nursery - Star In The Making

Carl Cox has won this race before and Star In The Making, a smartly bred daughter of Muhaarar, looks to have a cracking chance of making it two wins on the bounce.

She stayed strongly when making all at Salisbury and this 7f trip looks right up her street.

The form of that race has also worked out nicely with 4th place landing a gamble next time out.

17:25 - Newmarket Journal And Velvet Magazine Handicap - Breathless Times

All of Breathless Times’ form comes on the all weather but a chance is taken he can capitalise from a low turf mark on his second start for a new yard.

Stewart Williams is flying at the minute and the booking of Jim Crowley catches the eye. The younger horses do well in this event and he is now 8lb lower than his last turf start.
