Newmarket Cambridgeshire Meeting Day Two Preview - 27/09/19

13:50 - Heath Court Hotel British EBF Maiden Stakes - Maqsad 10/3

William Haggas has won this race the previous two seasons and Maqsad, who has been snipped at throughout the week, looks the one to beat.

She has a 100% record at Newmarket and drops down into listed company following two efforts at Group1 level.

This expensive daughter of Siyouni still holds a top level entry and we are hopeful she can bounce back to winning ways here.

14:25 - Princess Royal Muhaarar Stakes - Promissory 6/4

John Gosden often targets this race, winning four of the last seven, and Dubawi filly Promissory holds strong form claims having finished behind Sir Ron Priestley at Goodwood recently.

This is a nice form line for the yard as he went onto finish behind their winner of the St. Leger next time out and he returns to a trip he is 1/1 at.

To add to this, despite being the highest rated, he receives 3lb from many of the field as a 3-y-o and this age group tend to dominate the race.

15:00 - Shadwell Rockfel Stakes - Festival Day 8/1

Daahyeh is a proven group performer and will be hard to beat here, but at an E/W price we think Festival Day may be worth the risk.

She has to step up on what she has done already, but her recent victory caught the eye and the yard’s horses often improve for racing.

Aidan O’Brien’s Blisfull is also worth a mention. Foreign opposition tend to do well in this race and he had the winner in 2018.

15:35 - Shadwell Joel Stakes - King Of Comedy 5/4

John Gosden’s King Of Comedy has some rock solid form to his name and if Benbatl isn’t primed for a big run he looks the clear pick in this one.

Godolphin’s Dubawi horse has a good record fresh, however he has to give weight to a younger, improving type and it would take a big performance to come out on top.

16:45 - Mukhadram Godolphin Stakes - Mount Everest

Mount Everest’s second to Japan reads very well and we rate him a cracking bet having had a pipe opener in Ireland recently.

He as an unexposed profile and receives weight from the older horses, with Owen Burrows’s Dubawi filly Ojooba rating the main danger.
