Newbury Saturday Preview - 27/10/2018

13:10 Alegmana

The opener at the Berkshire track is the Conundrum Consulting EBF Fillies’ Novice Stakes.

In a race for two-year-olds with plenty of debutants we are siding with one of those that has experience. David Simcock’s ALEMAGNA ran admirably just over a week ago at Nottingham.

The penny seemed to drop late for the horse and the two -year-old Filly can make that experience pay in her second trip to the racecourse.

13:40 Naughty Rascal

We advise having a bet on top-weight NAUGHTY RASCAL in the Sir Gerald Whent Memorial Nursery Handicap.

Richard Hannon is renowned for his two-year-olds and this is another one that looks extremely capable.

Winner of two of his three runs the horse won at a higher grade than this at Salisbury last time out. Whilst this son of Kyllachy faces some unexposed rivals he has some solid form in the book.

14:20 Weekender

WEEKENDER can continue his consistent season by winning the Teddington Royal British Legion Stakes (Group 3).

After winning a high-level handicap with ease on season debut this four-year-old out of Frankel has followed that up Class 1 level with placed efforts over further.

The drop in trip looks a plus and the colt can win in the hands of William Buick.

14:50 Chairmanoftheboard

The next race is another Group 3 in the shape of the Molson Coors Stakes. In what seems a relatively trappy race for two-year-olds we are siding with favourite CHAIRMANOFTHEBOARD.

His one appearance on the race track less than two weeks ago saw him win by eight lengths in a 6f at Goodwood.

The horse out of Slade Power looks to have ludicrous potential and can confirm that in his debut at Group level.

15:20 Muchly

Next up it’s the Conundrum Consulting EBF Fillies’ Novice Stakes and again in this race for two-year-olds we are siding with experience.

John Gosden’s MUCHLY has only run on the All-Weather of Chelmsford at the start of October. She finished third that day in what looked a strong race for the grade.

Whilst there are a number of finely bred Fillies in the race the selection has proven she has the ability to win a maiden and can do so at the second attempt.

15:55 Zofelle

ZOFELLE can win the Byerly Stud Stakes. This Listed race for two-year-olds has a number of previous winners in the field.

However, it is the selection that is the least exposed having had the one run which saw her win.

That was only a Class 5 but the Hugo Palmer trained Filly looked to be a horse going places and she can take this step-up in grade in her stride and beat a number of the more proven two-year-olds.

16:30 Capton

The Georgie Busher 90th Birthday Handicap over 1m2f has a lot more form to go on than previous races at Newbury.

We are siding with the Henry Candy trained CAPTON. The five-year-old is undoubtedly at his level.

However, this time last year he completed a three-timer. He has not found that kind of form in his season as five-year-old but seems on a reasonable mark and can win for the fourth time in his career.

17:05 War Brigade

The final race is the Worthington’s Lady Jockey’ Handicap for Lady Amateur Riders. WAR BRIGADE has only had the one race this season after a year off the track.

That saw her finish a solid sixth of fourteen and he is now eased in grade. That run would have been needed after such a lay off but it some ways it was also a career best.

The four-year-old seems to have wintered well and looks a winner in waiting, that can be at Newbury on Saturday.
