Newbury Saturday Preview - 25/10/19

13:40 - Apollinaire

Newbury start their Saturday meeting with a Class 3 Handicap over six furlongs and we fancy the Ralph Beckett trained Apollinaire.

This two year old has had three starts to date running to a credible level on all three of them getting off the mark on his debut at Doncaster and then placing twice since then.

Last time out he was a good second at Chester on soft ground which should see him handle this heavy surface better than most the runners on show.

14:20 - Morando

The first Group Three of the afternoon is the St Simon Stakes over 1 mile 4 furlongs and the field is full of runners that enjoy soft, tricky conditions.

The form horse and our fancy is the Andrew Balding trained Morando who in his last two runs has got back to his best especially in these conditions.

He is a course and distance in his career and also finished a smart second here two starts ago behind a useful runner in similar conditions.

He franked that form by winning at Ascot over 12 furlongs in a decent Group Three and the wetter it is for the race the more he will relish in the conditions.

14:50 - Kinross

The second and final Group contest of the afternoon at Newbury sees the Cancom Stakes over seven furlongs and Kinross for Ralph Beckett looks the one to beat.

This two year old colt has only raced once during his career but got off the mark at Newmarket in taking style beating 15 runners which included some already proven winners.

That form has since been franked with the Godolphin horse that was second tat day since going on to win and if handling the heavy conditions this son of Kingman could be interesting.

15:20 - Annie De Vega

The big fielded Novice Stakes over a mile sees 17 runners head to post and we have another fancy from the in form Ralph Beckett with Annie De Vega.

This juvenile filly has only had one start to date finishing a decent third at Nottingham on soft ground, she will certainly come on for that run and has proved she handles testing conditions.

Sire Lope De Vega has some smart winners this season and this two year old looks sure to add to that role of honour sooner rather than later.

15:55 - Peaceful

The Listed Radley Stakes over seven furlongs again sees a competitive young field go to post and the pick of the bunch looks to be the Irish raider Peaceful.

This Aidan O'Brien trained filly has had two starts to date needing the run at Leopardstown on her first outing but last time getting off the mark in smart style.

That win came at Thurles on soft ground meaning she will enjoy the conditions on Saturday and also holding a strong pedigree we are yet to see how good she could be.

16:30 - Majestic Dawn

The final selection from us at Newbury at the weekend comes in the Class 2 Handicap over 1 mile 2 furlongs and Majestic Dawn for Paul Cole is an interesting runner.

The three year old gave a career best performance last time at Nottingham in heavy conditions and even with a five pound penalty for this contest he should be progressive.

The testing ground last time out seemed to unleash his true potential and with the same conditions and already being a course and distance winner he has a lot in his favour.
