Navan Tuesday Preview - 22/02/22

The first selection of the afternoon at Navan comes in the Listed Apple's Jade Mares Hurdle and Lunar Display for Joseph O'Brien looks the one to beat.

This mare has been frequently ran this term but has some very strong form that sees her very tough to beat if running to that level.

Having won a Mares Novice Hurdle at Thurles in December over two miles she then went up in trip at Fairyhouse and finished in behind two exceptional mares for Willie Mullins in the Grade Three Solerina.

Last time out at the Dublin Racing Festival she was a good sixth of 15 in the Mares Handicap Hurdle behind Party Central and although giving weight away she is by far the best horse in the race.

The Grade Two Boyne Hurdle is one of the main attractions on Tuesday at the Irish track with 14 smart runners heading to post for a nice purse.

We have sided with the Jessica Harrington trained Ashdale Bob, who still retains plenty of ability and could land this event at a nice price.

Having not taken to chasing this season, having been a very smart hurdler before that, winning at Grade Two level, he reverted back to hurdles last time out to good effect.

In the Grade Three Galmoy Hurdle last time out he finished a good third behind smart mare Royal Kahala over three miles.

That form looks very smart and if coming on for that run, he should be able to go close at a price.

Another feature race at Navan on Tuesday is the Grade Two Novice Chase over three miles and Run Wild Fred will be looking to strengthen his claims for the National Hunt Chase.

The eight year old is technically still a novice over fences this season having not won last term in his first term over the bigger obstacles.

Although not winning he put up some superb efforts, including seconds in the Thyestes Handicap Chase and Irish Grand National.

This term he returned at Cork in a Grade Three Novice Chase over 2m4f and he finished a fair second behind Cape Gentleman with trip far too short, overall it being a prep race.

It worked perfectly setting him up for the Troytown Handicap Chase at Navan as he went on to win eased down by close to eight lengths.

Looking to truly see how good he was last time out at Leopardstown over Christmas he finished a good second behind stablemate Fury Road in the Grade One Neville Hotels Novice Chase.

Should go well.

The final selection of the afternoon comes in the three mile handicap chase and Conqueredalofeurope for James Motherway could be the value.

Winning on hurdles debut last season, he never really matched that and when sent over fences to start with looked a lost horse.

However, being sent into handicap company the last twice he is started to find his mojo, with a good second at Fairyhouse over 2m5f and then backed that up last time out over the same C&D when fourth of 15.

Only up 1lb for that run to a mark of 111, he will be getting his preferred ground of soft/heavy and can go close.
