Lingfield Saturday Preview - 11/05/19

1:25 - Mullarkey

Mullarkey will be out to spark revenge over The Lords Walk in the Visit attheraces.com Handicap over seven furlongs in the Lingfield opener.

The latter was awarded the race at Leicester last time out after interference from Mullarkey, but whilst The Lords Walk has been raised 5lb, John Best's runner has gone up 1lb less and hopefully will stay away from trouble this time.

Four pounds worse off on official ratings, Mullarkey remains ahead of the handicapper and will look to continue the fine progress he has made in recent months.

Essentially won the race last time, so will look to follow it up again.

1:55 Frankellina

Frankellina looks to follow in the footsteps of the likes Golden Horn and Cracksman who also wore Anthony Oppenheimer's colours in recent years and either won or went close in Classics.

This filly has some big race entries coming up, and will be a top contender to take the Listed RaceBets Money Back All Losers Oaks Trial Fillies' Stakes over a mile-and-a-half.

Daughter of Frankel (hence the name), she won a one-mile novice event on debut for yard last year at Yarmouth, and showed plenty of signs of greenness.

Would have learned a lot from that, and could be something special if handling the step-up in trip.

2:30 - Cap Francais

Another offspring of Frankel - Cap Francais can upset favourite Anthony Van Dyck and the rest in the Listed RaceBets Derby Trial Stakes over a mile-and-a-half.

This three-year-old won two novices last year over a mile for trainer Ed Walker, before returning to finish a good second in the 1m2f Listed Blue Riband Trial at Epsom on his return.

Very stoked up before the race, he looked coltish and was sweating quite heavily in the preliminaries. Took a keen hold but was held up off the pace by Gerald Mosse as the front pair zoomed off.

He delivered his challenge late and was pressing the winner all the way to the line, and an extra couple of furlongs - which he gets today, could have seen him come home in front.

Also has the advantage of having the run this season, so will be a likely player.

3:05 - Hollywood Road

Hollywood Road won over slightly shorter here last May, and is 3lb better off this time around in the Millgate Handicap over one-mile-and-five-furlongs.

Seems to produce his best around this time of year - which we have seen to good effect with two good attempts this term when second at this track on reappearance on the all-weather, and third to Hareeq at Bath back on the turf on latest start in April.

Should go well here, and a notable jockey booking as well with Colm O'Donoghue - regular on Alpha Centauri last term for Jessica Harrington, in the saddle for Gary Moore.

Chance.

3:40 - Pretty Baby

The feature race of the day is the Group Three RaceBets Million Chartwell Fillies' Stakes over seven furlongs, and William Haggas' Pretty Baby looks to be the one to beat.

Outstanding record - winning four of her six starts, she narrowly defeated Dancing Star (who goes here) in a Group Three seven furlong contest at Glorious Goodwood last August.

That put right her short-head second to Raven's Lady at York in another Group Three in July, and this category and level does seem to suit her well, adding to which her unbeaten record still stands away from the Knavesmire.

Victory here, and she may even take things up a gear.

4:50 - Alhakmah

No bet in the 99 (No Flake) Farewell Handicap for us, so straight onto the last which is the Sky Sports Racing On Virgin 535 Fillies' Novice Stakes over six furlongs; another opportunity for Alhakmah to prevail.

Two efforts as a juvenile - he caught the eye when absolutely flying home in a maiden at Glorious Goodwood on debut when just being denied by the applicably-named Feel Glorious.

Yourtimeisnow got the better of him a couple of weeks later at Newbury, but having matured and grown into a bigger scope over the winter, he only found Hotsy Totsy too good in a big field at Salisbury on reappearance recently.

This should be his chance, in the perfect assured hands of Ryan Moore.
